Overview
The San Diego County Probation Department is recruiting for the position of Senior Data and Research Analyst to join the Business Intelligence (BI) Unit. The BI Unit is a small, specialized team dedicated to transforming data into meaningful insights that support departmental operations and strategic decision-making. Senior Data and Research Analysts play a critical role in producing dynamic, recurring dashboards and reports on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis using Excel and Power BI.
These visualizations are distributed to executive leadership and external partners to inform decisions and track performance.
Beyond data analysis, the BI Unit conducts business process reviews to identify operational efficiencies across the department. This includes site visits, employee interviews, and process mapping to develop recommendations that improve workflow and support staffing decisions. The BI Unit leads the implementation of new technologies, participating in every phase from procurement and system design to training and deployment. The team also responds to Public Records Act requests and other data inquiries on behalf of the department.

Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening and passing a probation background check.

Minimum QualificationsA master’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience; OR additional years of experience as described above may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Condition of EmploymentAs part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
Evaluation ProcessQualified applicants will be placed on a nine-month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in the supplemental questionnaire.
