Overview
The County of San Diego has current openings for Office Assistants. This position is eligible for appointment at Step 1, $43,201.60 annually. County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement in Accordance with Compensation Ordinance 1.3.5.
Office Assistants perform a wide variety of clerical/administrative support and/or typing/keyboarding tasks and perform related work as required for many County of San Diego departments. Office Assistants may act as receptionists, file clerks, or typists/keyboarders using computer application programs to perform a wide variety of typing/data entry and record keeping assignments. Highly desirable candidates will have strong customer service and multi-tasking skills and be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
The eligible list created from this recruitment will be used to fill positions located throughout San Diego County, including Central San Diego, North County, East County, and South Bay. Please indicate ALL areas where you are willing to work in question #10 in the Agency Wide Questions section of your application. In addition, please indicate all types of employment you are willing to accept (regular, temporary, full-time, part-time) in question #12 in the Agency Wide Questions section of your application.
This recruitment will also be used to fill bilingual positions for many different languages. If you wish to be considered for bilingual positions, you MUST indicate the languages in which you are fluent in questions #2 and #3 in the Agency Wide Questions section of your application.

Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.
In order to qualify for Office Assistant you must possess one of the following:
- Recent completion of a clerical/secretarial curriculum from a community college; OR
- One (1) year of recent full time clerical/administrative support experience in an office performing routine clerical duties.
Note:
An associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited U.S. college or university, or certified foreign studies equivalency may substitute for the experience listed above.
If you are qualifying based on education, you must attach a copy of your degree transcripts or diploma or foreign equivalency report at the ATTACHMENTS section of your application. Required attachments submitted on or after February 29, 2008, do not need to be resubmitted. Please submit only the documents required.
Condition of EmploymentAs part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
