Summary
The Staff Accountant – Contracts/Leases is responsible for managing contracts mainly related to rent. This individual will process reporting and payments for assigned contracts including preparing monthly rent, ASC 842 Compliance, preparing and posting all related journal entries and preparing assigned account reconciliations. This is a tremendous growth opportunity, as we are looking for an individual that takes initiative and has the accounting knowledge/skills with the opportunity to grow into the senior accountant position.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Contract Accounting

• Development and assurance of adherence to all departmental policies and procedures.

• Manage all reporting, payment, accounting processes and databases for assigned contracts, based on contract review and interpretation.

• Prepare fixed rent payments, including percentage share.

• Prepare Historical reporting and analysis for management.

• Assist with partner audit requests.

• Communicate with partner accounting teams when necessary, regarding monthly and annual reporting.

• Participate in annual budgeting process.

ASC 842 Compliance

• Provide quality assured financial reporting for all Partner leasing activity.

• Has a basic understanding of lease accounting standard ASC 842.

• Review Partner lease contracts to determine proper accounting under ASC 842

• Assist in maintaining up to date policies, and request clarification of existing policies as required.

• Provide accounting guidance and support to ensure new contracts are accounted for correctly and accounting and financial reporting risks are identified.

• Monitor compliance with corporate accounting policies in the area of lease accounting.

General Ledger

• Manage all general ledger activity for assigned accounts.

• Prepare and post partner payment journal entries.

• Prepare and post rent expenses and accrual entries.

• Prepare month end and year end journal entries.

• Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts to ensure balances are complete and accurate.

• Prepare month end and year end work papers.

• Other duties as required by business needs.

Skills / Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field

• 4-8 years of general accounting experience

• Strong knowledge of US GAAP

• High level of accuracy

• Ability to work in deadline-oriented environment.

• Exposure to General Ledger systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics NAV

• Advanced Excel skills mandatory along with Microsoft Office skills

• Prior CPA audit background is a plus.
