Overview
The Junior Grant Accountant is responsible for performing a range of accounting tasks within the Community Support Services (CSS) region. These tasks include, though are not limited to, the creation of correcting journal entries, reconciling against the general ledger, reviewing request for reimbursement, auditing supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness, providing Quality Assurance of existing Accounts Payable transactions, and providing backup, as needed, as an accounts payable processor.
This position will supervise the Accounts Payable Clerk responsible for pulling monthly claim backup, audit backup, and the processing of reoccurring office bills.
WORK DESIGNATION:
- Remote (must work within San Diego County Region)
- Bi-weekly meetings at our North Park location
- Please note that the work designation may change based on business needs.
- Lead and provide backup to the Accounts Payable Clerk functions, including, processing invoices, expense reports, employee petty cash, cash advances, and check requests and scan/file into the General Ledger System
- Responsible for assisting with periodic internal and external audits by reviewing all compiled supporting documentation including, but not limited to, Invoices, Cancelled Checks, Paystubs, and Timecards
- Reviews and audits backup supporting documentation of monthly requests for reimbursement claims from funders for accuracy and completeness
- Ensures all YMCA policies and procedures and financial reporting requirements are always adhered to
- Responsible for the creation of Journal Entries, including all appropriate backup, and submit for final approval
- Verifies all Journal Entries and Accounts Payable posted accurately to the General Ledger
- Perform other administrative tasks as assigned and assist with maintaining proper document storage and auditing
- Participate in and attend all required staff meetings, trainings, YMCA staff development events and appropriate agency-wide committees
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have access to reliable transportation to travel regularly throughout San Diego County
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or related field or four (4) years’ equivalent related experience required AND
- A minimum of four (4) years’ combined work experience required in:
- Accounting or finance required
- A high volume, deadline driven environment with frequent interruptions required
JOB
COMPETENCIES:
- Requires strong computer knowledge and data entry skills
- Ability to use Microsoft Office applications required, with advanced proficiency in Excel a plus
- Previous exposure to accounting software and working knowledge of Net Suite a plus
- Strong attention to detail, highly organized, and must be a self-starter
- Demonstrated ability to identify issues, investigate solutions and resolve problems
- Excellent critical-thinking, troubleshooting, and analytical skills
