Controller, Accounting, CFO

Exciting and well funded Life Sciences company in San Diego is looking to hire their first Controller. This role will report to a collaborative CFO will manage the overall accounting function with a team of 2 in place. Great ground floor opportunity for someone who can help get processes and procedures in place and set this rapidly growing company up for success by leading the accounting function.

• Own full-cycle accounting including GL, AP, AR, payroll, and close processes
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Manage accounting for a partnership LLC / pass-through entity, including capital accounts
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
• Partner with the CFO on financial planning, audits, and strategic initiatives
• Lead or support ERP implementation (Quick Books initially; Net Suite likely as the company scales)
• Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and legal partners
• Build scalable processes to support commercialization and long-term growth

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
• 7–12+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Startup or early-stage company experience strongly preferred
• Commercial pharma / biotech / life sciences industry experience
• Hands-on experience with Quick Books and/or Net Suite
• Experience with LLC / partnership accounting
• Comfortable owning all aspects of accounting in a lean environment
• Strong attention to detail with a proactive, ownership-oriented mindset

Salary: $170,000 - $180,000 base + bonus + equity
