Location: San Diego, CA – Hybrid (in-office 2 days, remote 3 days)
Compensation: $125,000 – $145,000 base + 20% bonus + RSUs (DOE)
Job Summary:
A leading fintech company is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Lead Revenue Accountant to join its Accounting organization. This is an individual contributor role within a high-performing Revenue Recognition team, responsible for ensuring revenue is recognized in accordance with ASC 606 and company policy, while supporting the business through rapid innovation and evolving go-to-market strategies. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting acumen, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally in a fast-paced, complex environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical revenue accounting guidance for new products and services, collaborating with marketing, product, finance, and IT teams to align on end-to-end revenue treatment
Maintain and enforce revenue recognition policies under ASC 606, including interpretation and documentation of new positions as business models evolve
Perform technical accounting research and develop clear, actionable guidance for operational teams
Ensure accurate and efficient systemic and manual revenue accounting processes
Proactively identify and drive improvements to revenue recognition controls, forecasting accuracy, and system tools
Participate in due diligence efforts and accounting treatment reviews related to potential acquisitions
Develop and deliver training for business unit leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure understanding of revenue recognition principles and processes
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate preparation and substantiation of revenue-related accounts
Monitor and interpret evolving accounting standards and apply changes to company policies as needed
Build and maintain strong relationships with cross-functional partners to influence high-quality decision-making related to revenue recognition
Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or MBA strongly preferred
Minimum 7 years of post-graduate experience in revenue accounting or technical accounting
Deep understanding of ASC 606 and revenue recognition principles; ability to interpret and apply complex guidance in real-world scenarios
Strong end-to-end process orientation with analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence and partner across all levels of the organization
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, multi-business unit environment
High level of professional skepticism, with a background in internal audit or public accounting a plus
Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle R12; familiarity with Blackline, Click Sense, and revenue billing platforms preferred
Oracle R12, Blackline (journal entries), Click Sense (reporting), D-Bill, custom revenue tools integrated with ERP
