The Transportation Analyst is responsible for planning and monitoring shipments within the distribution network, ensuring a high level of customer service while managing costs. This role includes tasks such as building and scheduling loads, managing shipper and consignee relationships, overseeing carrier performance and KPIs, and tracking shipments.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesProactively identify and resolve issues with shipments, ensuring customer satisfaction and addressing disruptions such as labor disruptions, weather, or natural disasters. Regularly update management on progress and actions taken.
Manage and communicate shipment tracking information for various transportation modes, including truckload, LTL, Drayage, Ocean, Parcel, and Air.
Assist in meeting transportation documentation requirements (e.g., BOL, SLI, SED, hazardous materials declarations) for the supply chain.
Obtain rate quotes from preferred carriers to support project activities and transportation for new raw materials and finished goods.
Coordinate with dispatchers at origin facilities (plants and distribution centers) to schedule and reschedule delivery appointments for all loads.
Ensure accurate data entry into the Transportation Management System (TMS) to maximize use of preferred carriers and align scheduling with customer requirements.
Establish and maintain efficient carrier routes for shipments between distribution centers, plants, customers, vendors, and other nodes within the transportation network.
Investigate product overages, shortages, or damages, and file carrier claims as necessary.
Assist in carrier selection and help implement changes to preferred carrier usage within the network.
Compile and analyze freight data, creating reports as needed to support transportation strategy and decisions.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to optimize the transportation network.
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by leadership.
Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge of transportation operations, including LTL, truckload, intermodal, parcel, ocean, and air transportation, with strong analytical skills.
Ability to assess alternative solutions to problems, using logic and analysis to inform decision-making.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers, team members, and management.
Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks effectively. High attention to detail is required.
Required:
Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Minimum of 2 years of experience managing transportation providers, particularly for temperature-controlled substances.
Experience with federal and state motor carrier regulations.
Proficiency with Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
Knowledge of MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
Preferred:
Experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry.
Familiarity with Oracle ERP/OTM Systems.
Experience managing cold chain, Controlled Room Temperature (CRT) shipments, hazardous materials, or controlled substances.
This is largely a sedentary role with standard office work.
The job operates in a professional office environment, requiring routine use of standard office equipment.
Travel:
