San Bruno Park is a linguistically and culturally diverse school district in the San Francisco Bay Area. It serves preschool to grade 8 across four elementary schools and one middle school. The district has a strong financial position and recently approved a raise for educators to attract and retain talent.
Job SummaryUnder the direct supervision of the school principal, maintains assigned site(s) by performing routine custodial tasks and semiskilled maintenance tasks according to a prepared work schedule arranged with the school principal.
Responsibilities- Sweep, scrub, mop and wax floors; vacuum and spot clean carpets; empty and clean waste receptacles; wash windows, walls, tables, benches; dust and polish furniture and woodwork; haul trash barrels/cans to the dumpster. Cleaning of restrooms and related areas in a sanitary manner. Follow cleaning guidelines and training.
- Ensure campus site is clean and safe for the students and staff.
- Wash, scrub and disinfect showers, locker rooms, restrooms, and cafeterias; unclog stopped toilets, sinks and fountains; assist Maintenance staff as needed in repairing broken minor plumbing and toilet fixtures issues.
- Operate industrial equipment such as shampooers, vacuum cleaners, floor polishers, foam gun, pressure washers, lighting, and related equipment; maintain the site. Ensure all equipment/tools are secure and properly cared for.
- Replace light bulbs as needed and secure bad bulbs in a safe manner for proper disposal.
- Move and arrange furniture, set up equipment for meetings and special events.
- Report and troubleshoot by phone or radio with Maintenance staff for site HVAC operational issues affecting the school.
- Secure facilities and set alarms, raise/lower flags, lock/unlock doors and gates as needed.
- Painting to cover graffiti and prepare a facility area for painting by Maintenance Staff.
- Work with minimal supervision or in a team environment depending on the scope of the project and site needs.
- Use of PPE pertinent to the job is mandatory.
- Other duties as needed or required.
- Obtain and hold any valid credentials or licenses required to perform duties on a school site or in the state of California.
- Take and pass required training related to the custodial trade or required by the district, city, county, state or federal.
- Work with ladders, stools, or lifts.
- Set work priorities and work independently.
- Paint small areas easily done by a single person.
- Scrap and clean windows.
- Create and submit work orders for needed site repairs.
- Remove weeds in walkways and buildings.
- Report issues of concern to the Director of MOTF as they arise in a timely manner.
- Create and submit work orders for site needs and supplies.
- Valid California Driver License (CDL)
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Team cleaning concepts a plus
- Custodial card or certificate a plus
- Safe use of custodial equipment, chemicals and cleaners
- Read and understand warning labels on chemical bottles, supplies and machinery
- Take and pass required training related to the custodial trade
- Understand and follow directions
- Noise level in the working environment is moderate, higher depending on the task
- Speech sufficient to speak in an understandable voice (Emergency site response)
- Physical stamina to reach, bend, stoop, extend, climb ladders, and crawl in small places
- Must wear appropriate attire for custodial work
- Strength to lift and carry objects and equipment up to 50 lbs., and move up to 200 lbs. using a dolly or hand truck
