Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department, is accepting applications for at least (1) Permanent, Full-Time appointment to the Carpenter Supervisor position. This vacancy exists in the Facility Operations Department and is under the direction of the Building Trades Supervisor. The Carpenter Supervisor shall be responsible for managing the Carpenter Shop and assigning the carpentry duties of shop staff.
The Carpenter Supervisor directs, instructs, and advises skilled and semi-skilled staff while demonstrating effective, high-quality carpentry methods. The incumbent will provide direct oversight to Carpenter I, Carpenter II, and Building Maintenance Workers (BMW) regarding project assignments. This role includes maintaining a safe working environment by supervising ongoing safety training, conducting inspections, enforcing accident prevention protocols, and holding regular weekly safety meetings.
The Supervisor makes daily estimates of the time and materials necessary for scheduled tasks; coordinates work completion with other shop supervisors and maintains accurate logs while preparing reports. Departmental duties involve ordering, requisitioning, and overseeing the safe storage of supplies and materials. The supervisor may act on behalf of the Supervisor of Building Trades.
Duties and responsibilities to this position include, but are not limited to: knowledge of building, construction and safety codes applicable to the carpentry industry; inspection, installation, maintenance, and repair of items applicable to carpentry; knowledge of principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the carpentry industry; roofing; window and door repairs; road, asphalt and concrete repairs; maintaining and adhering to tool control policy and procedures;
maintaining accurate record keeping; reading blueprints, working from plans and specifications; preparing rough sketches for minor installations and estimating material and labor cost; adhering to all safety and security policies and procedures; supervising staff; planning and overseeing carpentry duties and responsibilities; problem solving and making suggestions; enforcing rules and regulations; and maintain training and personnel compliance.
The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to being hired. A valid California Driver’s License is required to operate state vehicles.
