Salary: $5,082.00 - $6,361.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range when applicable.

Patton State Hospital Human Resources is accepting applications for at least one (1) permanent, full‑time Licensed Vocational Nurse (Safety) position. The role involves various shifts and days off, with primary responsibilities as a medical escort and occasional direct patient care on units. The LVN reports to the Assistant Clinical Administrator.

• Provide hospital‑wide patient escorting to and from medical appointments.
• Motivate patients to attend appointments.
• Administer oral and parent medications.
• Maintain optimal motor function through positioning and exercise.
• Prepare, pass, and chart medications.
• Take vital signs: temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
• Observe and report patient symptoms.
• Perform urinary bladder irrigation, bowel training programs, and other restorative activities.
• Clean and set up equipment; collect specimens; administer enemas; provide care requiring aseptic isolation technique.
• Assist in administering specialized treatments by registered nurses or physicians.
• Provide tracheotomy and colostomy care; assist with elimination, suction, and tube feeding.
• Administer pre‑ and post‑operative nursing care.
• Ensure patient safety, emotional and physical comfort.
• Participate in evaluation of patient needs and formulation of nursing care plans.

• Calm and effective handling of difficult individuals.
• Pass the LVN exam – mandatory for eligibility (follow exam link; an application will not progress without taking the exam).
