Responsibilities
  • Assist hospital management with planning, developing, evaluating, and coordinating the hospital’s emergency, business continuity, hazard mitigation plans, program communications and preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery programs.
  • Coordinate mutual aid, memorandums of understanding, and other emergency management agreements to mitigate risks or threats to public safety and protect hospital employees, patients, and property.
  • Serve in an assigned first-responder function alongside fire, hospital police, and medical personnel when necessary.
  • Represent the hospital in developing a statewide emergency preparedness system in coordination with agency leadership and the Statewide Quality Improvement Division.
  • Prepare, implement, and administer the hospital’s Emergency Management Program; prepare documents for regulatory and accreditation agencies (Cal/OES, CDPH, Cal/OSHA, Joint Commission).
  • Compile performance improvement data, analyze hospital data, and conduct presentations and training on behalf of Health and Safety.
  • Respond on-site to hospital emergencies 24/7/365 to ensure safety and property protection using hospital protocols and policies.
  • Work shifts as needed, may work overtime, and may float to other locations based on operational needs.
  • Travel statewide for exercises, incident response at other facilities, and training.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Minimum Requirements: Refer to the Class Specification for Emergency Services Coordinator, Office of Emergency Services.
  • The position requires a valid California Driver's License (CDL) and the ability to address CDL questions on the application.
  • The position requires a Background Investigation and Medical Clearance prior to employment.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and privacy of PHI; excellent oral and written communication; ability to work with all levels of management and staff; high initiative and judgment; ability to multitask and work under pressure; professional appearance; dependability and attendance are critical.

  • Ability: Plan and respond to emergencies, coordinate across agencies, interpret laws, develop procedures, build cooperative relationships, prepare reports, and communicate effectively.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience in emergency preparedness.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and requirements for emergency planning and response.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to operate emergency management communication tools (e.g., satellite phones, notification systems).
  • Excellent written and oral communication; experience in emergency management training and instruction.
