Overview
The Registrar of Voters is recruiting for Elections Technicians to work in the fast-paced elections environment. Elections Technicians oversee complex projects and programs within the elections process, collect and analyze workload data, generate reports, and perform functions including voter registration, ballot and voter information guide design and proofing, logistical planning, technology support, candidate filing, early voting coordination, and poll worker recruitment and training.
They provide leadership and guidance to teams of both regular and seasonal staff.

About the Registrar of VotersThe mission of the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters is to conduct the County’s elections in a fair, accessible, secure, transparent, and efficient manner, upholding the highest level of election standards and accuracy, while providing excellent customer service to our team and the diverse population we serve. The Registrar of Voters performs voter registration functions, stores and maintains voter registration records, administers local, state, and federal elections, manages voting systems and equipment, processes ballots and tallies votes, trains poll workers, and provides voting-related services to voters, officials, campaign groups, and other stakeholders.
Conducting elections is exciting and challenging. Attention to detail and teamwork are vital. Permanent staff, temporary staff, and volunteers assist in the variety of complex tasks required to conduct elections. A successful team is built on clear roles, shared goals, commitment to excellence, clear communication, honesty, personal accountability, and personal integrity.
- Lead and collaborate with teams of regular, temporary staff, and volunteers to accomplish complex tasks.
- Oversee projects and programs within the elections process, including voter registration, ballot processing, and election logistics.
- Collect and analyze workload data, generate reports, and support decision-making with data.
- Support voter information guide design, proofreading, production, and dissemination.
- Provide technology support, candidate filing coordination, early voting coordination, and poll worker recruitment and training.

Conditions of Employment- Pre-Employment Process: Pre-employment background check includes fingerprinting, medical exam, and review of employment history.
- Work Schedule: During peak election periods, significant overtime may be required, including evenings, weekends, and early morning/late night hours on election day/night.
- Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. A valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained at hire.
- Sponsorship: San Bernardino County cannot sponsor visa candidates at the time of application or in the future. Candidates must provide legal right to work in the United States at the time of employment.
Applicants must meet ONE of the following options:
- OPTION 1: One (1) year full-time equivalent experience in a government election environment reviewing, researching and implementing government codes, legislation, and procedures, including assisting in designing, maintaining, planning and/or coordinating complex election projects, materials, electronic equipment and/or events. Experience must be clearly detailed on the application.
- OPTION 2: Two (2) years of experience as a lead-worker reviewing, researching and implementing government codes, regulations, and procedures, including assisting in designing, maintaining, planning and/or coordinating complex election projects, materials, electronic equipment and/or events. Experience must include procedures that require compliance with governmental codes.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the elections process with lead-worker experience in an election environment, including coordinating and implementing complex projects or programs, data gathering and reporting, Elections Code research, designing and processing ballots and voter information guides, training and recruitment of poll workers, locating polling places and distributing supplies and equipment, and conducting early voting, campaign finance, voter registration, petitions, and canvass processes.
Strong oral and written communication, customer service, leadership, and ability to learn and use specialized software are expected.
