Land Use Payroll Support Specialist – Land Use Services is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive candidate to join their team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, a high level of professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple administrative responsibilities efficiently. This position supports the Payroll Specialist’s operations through documentation, data management, and collaborative team work.
Key Responsibilities- Communicate effectively through email, phone, and in-person interactions.
- Review payroll calculations for accuracy.
- Perform accurate data entry and maintain organized digital records and database.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost discretion and professionalism.
- Work independently on assigned tasks and contribute effectively in team environments.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
- Research and interpret various county records/policies.

The Land Use Services Department is dedicated to ensuring a balance in the areas of housing, business, and recreational needs for the diverse cultures and communities of San Bernardino County. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTPre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, candidate must undergo a background check, which includes fingerprinting and a medical exam.
Public Service Employee: This position is recurrent, non-regular, limited duration position classified as a Public Service Employee. The successful candidate shall be considered at-will throughout the term of their employment and will not retain regular status. This position will participate in the County’s Deferred Compensation Plan and does not earn any other benefits.
Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is unable to consider candidates who require Visa Sponsorship at this time or in the future. Candidates must be able to present their legal right to work in the United States.
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Strong research skills.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a payroll support role.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communications abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Some experience with the Employee, Management and Compensation Systems (EMACS).
