SECTION I-JOB DESCRIPTION
QUALITY ASSURANCE COORDINATOR SALARY: $53,016.00 per year
SUMMARYUnder the supervision of the WIC Director or designee, the Quality Assurance (QA) Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the delivery of program services is performed in compliance with federal, state, and county policies and procedures. Duties include planning, coordinating, and evaluating clinical, breastfeeding and nutrition services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSEmployee will accurately document all time worked.
Report directly to the WIC Director or designee.
Assist clients and practice professional etiquette.
Adhere to Cameron County, Department of State Health Services (State) and Cameron County Public Health WIC Program (Local) policies and procedures.
Interpret policies, functions, and philosophy of the department to professional and lay groups.
Develop and evaluate clinic policies and procedures necessary to carry out program goals.
Responsible for Quality Management activities and Tools.
Responsible for reporting WIC summarized findings to the Quality Management committee and ensuring that corrective actions are implemented and that appropriate follow-up activities occur.
Screen identification, income, and residency to assess eligibility for applicants using WIC policies and procedures.
Must be able to screen/review immunization records to determine immunization status.
Obtain and record anthropometric measurements following State policies and procedures and assess for nutritional risk.
Must be able to perform hemoglobin procedures to obtain hemoglobin values and assess for nutritional risk.
Obtain and document all pertinent medical history and medical conditions that apply to the client.
Counsel participants on nutrition and breastfeeding education.
Must assess, identify, and assign all applicable nutritional risk codes to qualify clients during a certification.
Must be able to select and issue appropriate WIC food packages and nutrition education codes.
Must follow referral program guidelines for medium and high-risk clients for nutrition counseling.
Refer clients to appropriate agencies/programs to benefit the participant.
Conduct nutrition education classes for women, infants, and children.
Process non-contract formula requests following State and Local policies and procedures.
Participate in nutrition and breastfeeding education trainings to keep abreast of current advances.
Maintain Breastfeeding Education certification and receive ongoing training.
Perform breast pump issuance, inventory control, retrieval, basic troubleshooting, assembly, use, and cleaning.
Must train clients on the use of multi-user, single-user, and manual expression pumps.
Must be able to assess and resolve short-term breastfeeding concerns and other special circumstances as deemed necessary when counseling clients.
Convey and document employee and participant grievances to the WIC Director or designee.
Clarify any questions by clinic staff.
Make recommendations for program improvement.
Report any abuse of WIC property and violations of policy or codes encompassing WIC and/or Cameron County.
Promote nutrition through participation in community activities such as health fairs and presentations for programs such as the Head Start Program.
Provide WIC services in a professional and courteous manner as well as establish rapport within the organization and the general public.
Have no vested financial interest in WIC.
Degreed Nutritionists:
Degreed Nutritionists who have been assigned to work with certified WCS will coordinate with the Nutrition Education (NE) Coordinator as per State WIC policy CS: 16.0.Registered Dietitians:
Must maintain coordination with NE CoordinatorProvide nutrition counseling in different areas of nutrition.
Follow up on WCS program policy and procedures in the absence of the NE Coordinator.
Attend and promote nutrition community activities such as health fairs, head starts, and businesses.
Conduct nutrition education and breastfeeding in-services for WIC staff.
Provide comments for any new nutrition lessons, pamphlets, and policies provided by State WIC.
Develop new local agency lessons for group classes, as needed.
