Summary

The Final Inspector is responsible for ensuring the safe inspection of railcars and components, verifying that all products and services meet required specifications. This role’s purpose is to validate that railcars and components comply with applicable specifications before release from the facility. Specifications include owners' procedures and instructions, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Performs thorough inspection of components and railcars.
  • Documents and reports conditions and product identified as conforming and nonconforming.
  • Maintains current knowledge of government, industry (Federal Railroad Administration & The Association of American Railroads), customer, and company policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Participates in nonconforming and noncompliance investigations, root-cause analysis, and the development of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications

The following generally describes requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Proficient reviewing and interpreting drawings, instructions, standards, and specifications
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing, at all levels (of the organization)
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships
  • Ability to organize and prioritize projects and information with accuracy
  • Ability to drive results through information and team performance
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years of railcar maintenance/manufacturing experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of requirements of the American Association of Railroads (AAR), Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), industry and customer requirements.
  • NDT Level II in VT, MT, PT, UT, LT, IR; AWS CWI
  • Proficient in computer software applications, including Microsoft Suite of applications - Word, Excel, Outlook, and Dynamics, as well as quality and production applications such as Visio, Kaleris, and Intelex.

Employees are required to use personal protective equipment such as steel toe boots, hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, welding and grinding shields, or as environmental conditions dictate.
