General Maintenance Worker

Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs general maintenance work requirements for inside and outside building repairs such as repairing doors, windows, chalkboards, floors, walls, and ceilings. Performs minor carpentry, painting, electrical, and plumbing work required in the maintaining offices, dormitory rooms, classrooms and furniture. Maintains and repairs a variety of building facilities. Duties involve a general knowledge of various craft areas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Repairs wooden furniture such as chairs, desks, and bookcases.

Removes and replaces broken window glass, caulks window and door casements.

Repairs or replaces chalkboards in classrooms.

Repairs or replaces window frames and sashes.

Repairs or replaces mini-blinds, closet doors, drawers, hasps, door pulls, and window screens.

Repairs interior and exterior wood trim on university buildings.

Repairs or replaces doors, door jambs, passage locks, window locks, and strikers.

Performs carpenter framing walls, installs drywall and ceiling tiles.

Purchases materials and equipment, with approval of the Maintenance Superintendent.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Responsible for maintaining all shop equipment and power tools.

Assures that work area is properly cleaned and waste material removed from job site.

Ensure that safety and housekeeping rules are followed.

Assists in emergency response situations

Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Works inside, outside, in dusty, noisy areas.

Works in tight places and climbs ladders.

Works in all types of weather.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Lifts, carries, pushes or pulls a variety of tools, equipment and materials.

Climbs, balances, stoops, kneels and crouches.

Must lift approximately 75 pounds and with assistance lift in excess of 100 pounds.

Must be willing to work in high places on ladders, scaffolding, and roofs.

Must be able to operate power tools.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Two years' experience in general maintenance, required.

Must have a valid Texas driver's license and a good driving record.

High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
