OverviewUnder the immediate direction of the Senior/ Lead Mechanic, the Diesel Mechanic performs repairs on mobile equipment, including ready mix trucks, front end loaders, and trailers. 60/40 work split between Shop and mobile repairs at Concrete Ready-Mix plants.
Responsibilities- Observe and listen to trucks in operation to determine malfunctions.
- Use diagnostic software to perform advanced troubleshooting.
- Read manuals, use hand tools and power tools to repair and maintain electrical systems, power transmissions, brakes, drive lines and other automotive systems.
- Replace rollers and other wear items as required.
- Perform welding, repair and fabrication.
- Assist Senior Mechanic as needed.
- Perform data entry on all services performed.
- Operate mobile equipment as needed.
- Deliver technical advice to Ready Mix Truck Drivers and other mobile equipment operators.
- Maintain parts inventory and order parts and supplies as needed.
- Demonstrate knowledge of lock out/tag out procedures required during certain procedures.
- May make service calls at other plants or perform emergency roadside repairs as needed.
- Assist with training co-workers as needed.
- Conduct general cleanup of work areas and follow safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in the shop safety program and conduct tailgate safety meetings.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Education/Experience
- High School Diploma or Equivalent GED required
- Minimum 5 years Mobile Equipment Maintenance Experience;
Ready Mix Maintenance Experience preferred - Trade School or related mechanical/technical certification
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) and safe driving record preferred
- Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Knowledge of repair and maintenance of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical, transmissions, brakes, drive lines and other automotive systems
- Basic welding skills
- Ability to read and write in English
- 40 hours per week with overtime as needed
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing/walking, balance, bend, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects
- Ability to operate hand and foot controls
- Ability to perform sustained overhead reaching and use vibration tools
- Ability to lie on back or fit into cramped spaces as needed
- Work in areas with potential for high noise levels
- Work is performed approximately 50% outdoors and 50% indoors
