Overview
Grade 18 - Starting Hourly Rate: $32.00. Rate of pay depends on qualifications.
Hiring/Retention Incentive:
External candidates who are hired will receive a $1,000 Hiring Incentive, split into two payments of $500 on the second and fourth paycheck after hire. Upon successful completion of the six-month introductory period, a $1,000 Retention Incentive will be paid during the seventh month of employment.
The Journey Level Electrician is responsible for diagnosing, installing, maintaining, and testing high and low voltage electrical equipment. This position wires power distribution systems or transmission wiring and equipment up to 13.4 kV and may install, test, and program equipment associated with the Building Monitoring and Control System (BMCS).
Responsibilities- Diagnose, install, test, repair, and maintain electrical equipment for pumps, emergency power generators, high voltage switching, distribution equipment, air compressors, variable frequency drives, circuits, motors, fans, air conditioners, refrigerant systems, boilers and motor controls up to 4,160 volts, and program programmable logic controllers.
- Repair and adjust equipment, machines and defective components, replacing worn parts such as gaskets and seals in watertight electrical equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance and estimate electrical projects, including material and cost, and recommend repair or replacement of equipment (e.g., removal and installation of light fixtures, transformers, relays, ballast and fluorescent fixtures).
- Apply principles and practices of NEC, NFPA, OSHA, NLSC, electrical codes, work methods, tools, and operation of high voltage and emergency equipment.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and documents and modify for improved performance of electrical equipment and facilities.
- Maintain inventory of necessary tools, equipment and spare parts.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, plans and manufacturers’ specifications.
- Operate man lifts, bucket trucks and associated electrical maintenance equipment.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships and public relations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Install and test new BMCS installations for SAWS facilities.
- Utilize Building Management Systems (BMCS, including Metasys), and related software.
- Investigate problems with instruments and sensors (flow meters, variable speed drives, temperature sensors, transmitters, air quality sensors, interfaces) related to BMCS.
- Configure alarm settings, sensor limits, time schedules, temperature set points and control strategies for BMCS.
- Receive general supervision.
- May act as a Point of Contact (POC) for the electrical group you are assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Four years’ electrical experience.
- State of Texas Journeyman Electrician’s License.
- Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.
- Training on Confined Space, HAZMAT Awareness, Lock Out Tag Out, Supervising for Safety, Fit Testing, Electrical Safety and other required certifications.
- Normal visual color discrimination.
- Ability to perform position-specific physical testing.
- Ability to report to work on time, maintain good attendance, and work all designated schedules.
- Five years’ commercial/industrial electrical experience.
- Ability to operate Truck-mounted 3-ton crane, forklift, scissor jack, trencher, bucket truck and mini backhoe.
- Completed certification or enrollment in a recognized electrical trades or apprenticeship program (e.g., St. Philips Electrical Trades, NJATC, IEC, etc.).
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal/external customers, contractors and governmental agencies.
- Proficiency with personal computers and software (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
- Effective verbal and written communication.
Physical requirements include lifting and dragging up to 50 pounds occasionally. May stand, walk, climb, bend, crawl, squat, kneel and work in cramped positions; may climb up to 200 feet. Requires visual acuity.
Working conditions are primarily outdoors with exposure to inclement weather, wastewater, hazards (mechanical, electrical, chemical, confined spaces), fumes, noise, traffic, excavations, animals, snakes, and insects. May require PPE, including respiratory protection. Operates a company vehicle daily. May include non-standard hours, overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, on-call and rotating shifts.
