*** This is a fulltime position with scheduled work days Monday - Friday (7:00am - 4:00pm). On call seven (7) days a week. Will be required to take home State Issued Laptop . On call consists of rotation but will required to respond anytime if requested.***

GENERAL DESCRIPTION HVAC Mechanic I

Perform entry-level heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) work. Required to learn and apply skills to perform routine maintenance and repairs of air distribution systems installed in the different facilities. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

HVAC Mechanic II

Perform complex (journey level) heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) mechanic work. Work involves operation, maintenance, Installation and repair of mechanical and electrical / DDC control systems and components of HVAC equipment including steam and hot water boilers, DX systems, cooling towers, chillers, fan coil units and air handler units in medium and large buildings. Required to learn and apply the developing technology of microprocessor control systems as they are installed in the different facilities.

Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

HVAC Mechanic III

Performs advanced (senior-level) heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) work. Work involves operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electrical / DDC control systems and components of HVAC equipment including steam and hot water boilers, cooling towers, chillers, fan coil units and air handler units in medium and large buildings. Required to learn and apply the developing technology of microprocessor control systems as they are installed in the different facilities.

Instruct, guide and supervise the work of other HVAC mechanics and contractors while maintaining a work team atmosphere in order to accomplish large and difficult maintenance or repair projects. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES HVAC Mechanic I
  • Overhaul, remove and replace, and/or repair air conditioning, heating and ventilation equipment including pumps, air compressors, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, fan coil units, air handling units, DX systems, and pneumatically controlled devices. Make necessary adjustments to parts and equipment to attain maximum equipment efficiency during operation.
  • Repair and maintain heating hot water boilers, and all related components. Inspect and maintain all types of boilers for proper pressures including fire tube and water tube boilers, maintain proper water levels in boilers and associated equipment; read gauges and record indicated temperatures and pressures. Monitor boiler water and chemicals and adjust the equipment as needed.
  • Install or remove and replace electrical control wiring within the equipment. Remove and install damper motors, actuators, thermostats, humidistats, and all other associated equipment.
  • Monitor and adjust direct-digital-control (DDC) software unique to each piece of HVAC equipment to allow computer monitoring and remote adjustments for comfort and precision cooling and heating.
