Job SummaryLead Communications Technician will act as the on-site coordinator and crew supervisor for voice and data installation projects. The Lead Comm Tech's task will be to ensure job completion according to company and customer quality and safety requirements while maintaining the efficiency of the staff assigned to the project.
PayMinimum USD $29.00/Hr. Maximum USD $36.00/Hr.
Responsibilities- Lead major project crews and ensure job completion according to company and customer quality and safety requirements.
- Assume responsibility for effective performance and provide necessary training.
- Hold weekly safety meetings, initiate performance related communications and escape to Project Manager if necessary.
- Coordinate with Project Manager to ensure productivity, job completion and compliance with project budget.
- Complete all IES COMMERCIAL and project paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers).
- Perform quality checks, coordinate moves and cut sheets for voice and data cross connects, prepare red‑lined as‑built drawings.
- Serve as main on‑site customer contact for questions and/or concerns.
- Attend facility and construction meetings when required.
- Demonstrate detailed level of technical knowledge; troubleshoot and resolve technical issues as they arise.
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED equivalency.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field.
- Minimum six (6) months supervisory and/or managerial experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project).
- Knowledge of universal communications color codes.
- Proven skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents.
- Must be able to terminate fiber.
- Must possess and be able to effectively use the listed trade tools (punch tools with 110/66 block, 6/8 combo crimp tool, Krone/3M/BIX, butt set, volt‑ohmmeter, 4‑pair continuity tester, 5‑gang punch tool).
- Must have proven problem solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentation(s).
- Must meet company minimum driving standards.
- BICSI Certification preferred.
- Basic Hand Tools: screwdriver Phillips regular, drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips belt sheath, pliers needle nose and channel locks, hammer, cable stripper, flashlight and gloves.
- Trade Tools: punch tool 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool, Krone/3M/BIX, butt set, volt‑ohmmeter, 4‑pair continuity tester, 5‑gang punch tool.
- Self‑motivated, positive approach, professional, promote company culture.
- Act as company liaison for interface with customer representative(s).
- Problem solving, critical thinking, communication skills; read/writ/ oral presentation.
- Work at heights, off ladder, confined spaces, lift up to 50 lb and move up to 75 lb.
- Can see and distinguish different colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
- Travel within branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.
