Control Room Officer - PM Shift; midnight

Position Overview

Working under direct or immediate supervision, monitors established rules in the galleries and provides customer service to museum visitors. Work will be assigned and directed by Security Supervisor or Security Manager. Shift: 4pm - midnight.

• Observe assigned galleries to protect works of art from theft, vandalism, or inadvertent damage. Responsible for gallery opening and closing duties, ensuring visitors maintain proper distance from objects, and assuring smooth traffic flow throughout the galleries.
• Perform regular art counts and verify art movement within the galleries.
• Report any security issues or damage to an object to a security officer.
• Provide information to visitors, inform them of museum rules and policies, and direct them to exhibitions, exits, restrooms, and telephones.
• Check for water leaks and problems with access points (doors or windows).
• Report security, safety, or environmental hazards to a security officer.
• Participate in training sessions in safety, first aid, CPR, fire, and disaster procedures.
• Assist in medical emergencies involving visitors or staff, summon medical assistance when necessary, and complete appropriate reports.
• Be assigned to evening shift and may need to work weekends on a regular basis; may work overtime and fill in the PM shift occasionally.

• Must be able to obtain a Level II Texas Security License.
• Must pass a pre‑employment physical, background check, and fingerprint identification.
• Must pass CPR training.
• High level of integrity; tactful and courteous in dealing with visitors, staff, vendors, consultants and others.
• Good verbal skills, especially for communicating with visitors and on the radio.
• Professional appearance and good concentration skills.
• Excellent attendance record, punctuality, and reliability.
• Ability to work any shift as assigned, including weekends and holidays.
• Reliable transportation.
• Excellent written communication skills desirable.

Duties require standing for long periods of time, all types of weather, and may involve lifting heavy objects or opening heavy doors and hatches; climbing stairs, ladders, fire escapes, and in emergencies, quick physical response. Must have good eyesight and hearing (adjusted) and no night blindness. Clear verbal articulation required for radio communication.

Hourly rate of pay: $15.75.
