Security Officer Armed - Security

Summary

Uniformed position at all times. The Armed Security Officer acts as a visible deterrent to criminal activity, protects patients, associates, and visitors, patrols hospital buildings, assets, and premises as assigned. Responsibilities include responding to emergency codes, disaster events, performing preliminary investigations, and carrying out other security tasks directed by a supervisor or manager. The role requires flexibility in hours, ability to rotate between facilities, and may require travel.

Approved uniforms must be worn according to dress code.

Responsibilities

    Competencies:

    Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Conduct frequent security patrols of the facilities and grounds as assigned.
  • Identify and report trends related to security issues and recommend actions.
  • Record initial incident data, use proper grammar, and submit report by shift end.
  • Respond promptly to service requests from supervisor, phone, email, radio, etc.
  • Handle collection, inventory and return of lost items and patient valuables per policy.
  • Enforce rules, regulations, policies, and applicable laws.
  • Control and enforce facility parking through patrols, citations, towing, booting, etc.
  • Assist clinical/non-clinical associates with combative patients or visitors.
  • Perform client care responsibilities meeting age‑specific and developmental needs.
  • Operate Attendant Console, Paging System, security radio/dispatch system, NVR/CCTV monitors, and overhead paging system.
  • Use PC to generate daily activity reports, incident reports, emails, and other electronic correspondence.
  • Report safety hazards observed during rounds.
  • Adapt client assessment and care methods to accommodate physical, cultural, age‑specific, and developmental needs.
  • Demonstrate competence with handgun, handcuffs, baton, non‑crisis intervention certification, and two‑way radios.
  • Frequently encounter aggressive behavior and emotionally charged situations.
  • Occasionally face hazardous conditions such as fires, chemical spills, and flooding.
  • Deal with heat and cold from external weather conditions.
  • Walk, stand, stoop, lift for extended periods.
  • Physically fit to walk all areas, restrain individuals, and assist nursing staff with lifting patients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain mental alertness at all times.
  • Maintain excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Make immediate decisions regarding laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and manage personal stress and possible violence.
Education & Skills
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience
  • Minimum 2 years of armed security experience (or equivalent honorable military service) preferred.
  • Law enforcement experience preferred.
  • Healthcare security experience preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
  • Active Level 3 Certification required for positions in Texas and New Mexico.
  • For Texas positions:
    • Hold an active Level 3 Commission with TDPSPSB.
    • Complete TDPSPSB security commission course before hire.
    • Carry proof of active status if pocket card pending.
  • For New Mexico positions:
    • Obtain a Level 3 commission from the New Mexico Private Investigations Advisory Board before hire.
  • For Louisiana positions:
    • Must complete 40 hours of training and receive letter of authorization to carry a CHRISTUS‑assigned weapon.
  • Verbal De‑escalation training completed within 60 days of hire.
  • BLS required within 60 days of hire.
  • Expandable baton, defensive tactics, firearms, weapon qualification, and firearms retention training completed prior to authorization to carry.
  • Complete mandatory pre‑employment and post‑offer assessments (MMPI‑2‑RF‑PCIR, CPI, PPSSR, PEI, clinical interview).
  • Pass random drug test screening.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
Work Schedule

3 Days – 12 Hours per day.
