Overview
Position Overview: Reporting to the Buildings Maintenance Assistant Manager and Head of Operations, this position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and readiness of museum grounds.

Reporting to the Buildings Maintenance Assistant Manager and Head of Operations, this position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and readiness of museum grounds. A major focus of this role is maintaining and enhancing the 25 acres of grounds, landscape, and water features while keeping the landscape in pristine condition and appearing aesthetically beautiful and thriving. This role requires physical activity, attention to detail, and the ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
EssentialJob Functions
- Under the direction of Buildings Maintenance Assistant Manager, performs general gardening and landscape duties.
- Empties all trash and recycling receptacles located throughout museum grounds as scheduled.
- Assists team in maintaining outdoor space by performing skilled work such as mowing, weeding planting, fertilizing, pruning and cultivating trees, lawns and shrubs.
- Assists in maintaining and repairing irrigation practices, schedules, systems, and controllers to ensure adequate watering of grounds while adhering to SAWS watering restrictions as necessary.
- Responsible for safely using and maintaining hand tools and machinery. Services and performs minor maintenance of equipment including hand and power tools. Safeguards and properly stores equipment, supplies, and chemicals.
- Assists team and Buildings Maintenance Assistant Manager to adequately organize and maintain stock of supplies, materials, and tools needed for the grounds area.
- Ensures Garden Shop and Garage are organized, neat, and orderly; and that equipment, tools, materials, and supplies, are secured when area is unattended.
- Collaborates cross-functionally with Buildings Maintenance Assistant Manager and other departments as needed.
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle, maintain a valid operator’s license, have proof of insurance, and have a good driving record.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to support museum operations.
- Experience with operating standard grounds maintenance equipment including mowers and weed eaters.
- Knowledge of basic outdoor pest and weed control including use of pesticide application equipment.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Must be able to follow through on instructions in a timely manner.
- Enjoy working outside with plants and improving natural spaces.
- Experience with maintaining water features such as ponds and fountains a plus
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Must be able to perform moderately heavy physical work in an outdoor environment.
- Ability to bend, lift, stand, kneel and move for extended periods.
- Education:
High School or GED - Work Experience:
One year’s experience in grounds maintenance is preferred.
