Registered Nurse – Implant Coordinator Summary
The RN Implant Coordinator is a registered professional nurse accountable to the Chief Nurse, Perioperative and Specialty Clinics. The primary purpose of the role is to demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others, managing the implant program as it pertains to consult processing and implant procurement processes throughout the medical center. The position requires self‑directed learning and effective communication skills, promotes cooperation, teamwork, and effective interaction with internal and external customers.
Travel across South Texas Veterans Healthcare System may be required. The RN will report to the Nurse Manager for the Surgical Specialty Clinics.
- Evaluate the different types of implants used throughout the medical center to determine the appropriate use, storage, and management of implants.
- Assume responsibility for the overall management and oversight of supply, implant, and tissue inventory; stocking; and the implant/ tissue program for the entire healthcare system.
- Initiate and utilize positive, effective communication skills and professional behaviors to promote cooperation, teamwork, and effective interaction with internal and external customers.
- Travel as required to South Texas Veterans Healthcare System locations.
- Maintain and develop individual performance plans and identify learning needs.
- English language proficiency; sufficient written and spoken English to perform the duties of the position.
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by an appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by either the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a registered professional nurse in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
- Eligibility for the RN license (or a Graduate Nurse Technician exception as applicable).
- Implant Coordination experience.
- Five (5) years of experience in the operating room.
- Current AORN certification.
- Leadership experience.
- BSN or MSN degree.
- U.S. citizenship required; non‑citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.
- All applicants selected for testing are subject to a urinalysis for illegal drug use; refusal results in denial of employment.
- Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Possibility of a probationary period.
- Background/security investigation required.

- Lifting up to 35 pounds for 8–12 hours intermittently.

- Pulling for 8–12 hours intermittently.
- Pushing for 8–12 hours intermittently.
- Reaching above the shoulders for 8–12 hours intermittently.
- Walking, standing, kneeling, bending, climbing, reaching, twisting for 8–12 hours intermittently.
- Near vision 13–16" Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable to 20/20 in one eye, 20/40 in the other; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing aid permitted.
- Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) must be fully accredited by ACEN or CCNE.
- Foreign education holders must provide a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with transcripts.
