Rapid Response Registered Nurse - Part-Time Night Shift

Job Overview

The Rapid Response Team Nurse (RRN) functions under the direction of the ICU Manager. Responsibilities include assessing patients, prioritizing care, collaborating with providers and respiratory therapists, and implementing interventions to optimize patient outcomes. The RRN mentors staff, monitors JIT education, and ensures thorough documentation of interventions and outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to RRTs, Code Blues, Stroke, Sepsis alerts, and other emergencies.
  • Conduct clinical surveillance to identify at-risk patients through frequent rounds and collaboration with bedside nurses.
  • Teach and mentor nursing and ancillary staff.
  • Utilize data to proactively reduce negative patient outcomes and support process improvements.
  • Document interventions and outcomes promptly.
  • Coordinate care involving patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to evaluate and achieve expected outcomes.
  • Engage in teamwork and act as a role model for proactive problem solving.
  • Use chain of command for unresolved issues and advocate for safe care environments.
  • Ensure accurate event reporting and support quality assurance initiatives.
  • Participate in shared leadership and team-building activities.
  • Mentor staff and monitor JIT education; perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan and ability to assess patient data accordingly.
  • Skills to provide appropriate care to diverse patient populations.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to lead and participate in team settings.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and electronic health records.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
Education & Certifications
  • BSN from an accredited program.
  • Current Texas RN license (or Compact State).
  • BLS certification upon hire; ACLS within 90 days; PALS within 60 days (preferred); NIHSS within 120 days; critical care certification (preferred).
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of critical care nursing experience.
  • At least 2 years ICU nursing experience.
Additional Skills
  • Previous charge nurse or rapid response experience preferred.
