APP in Neurocritical Care The Department of Neurosurgery,/ Division of Neurocritical Care, Joe R. Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine (LSOM), at UT Health San Antonio is part of a nationally recognized medical center dedicated to promoting education, advancing research, and delivering compassionate patient care of the highest quality. We are seeking a motivated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) with an interest in Neurocritical care to join our faculty team.
University Hospital is a 24-bed, level 1 trauma, comprehensive stroke, and academic medical center covering San Antonio + a referral center for the rest of South Texas. Our team consists of 4 Neurointensivists, 8 APPs, dedicated neurocritical care fellows, and residents from neurosurgery and other disciplines. Our APPs make up the core of our team. They are strong clinicians, proficient in procedural skills, and excellent educators.
They actively engage in education at multiple levels and disciplines, and they participate in research and quality improvement efforts. The position includes a 6-month onboarding process before working independently regardless of critical care experience. The ideal candidate will provide clinical services 14 shifts per month. Hours are 6am – 6pm day shift and 6pm – 6am night shift (starting time and shift length is negotiable).
This position is for mixed days and nights coverage. Additional Licenses and Certifications State licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and national certification to practice as a nurse practitioner from an agency approved by the Texas Board of Nursing to work in an acute setting is required. OR A Bachelor's degree in a recognized field of science and completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program is required.

- FSAs – Employees can enroll in flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to set aside money from earnings before taxes for qualifying dependent day care expenses or out-of-pocket health care expenses.
- Retirement – Employees are eligible for either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.
- Time Off – A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:
Front‑loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire. Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after 1 day of Paid Time Off is taken.
Paid Family Leave:
Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment. Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each fiscal year. - Discounts – Employees enjoy a range of discounts on services, tickets, and gym membership.
