The professional Registered Nurse (RN) is the patient and patient’s family advocate. The RN applies the nursing process with critical thinking, scientific judgment, technical skills and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care. The RN collaborates with the patient care team to achieve quality patient outcomes in alignment with the Hospital mission and Methodist Excellence goals. The RN communicates effectively, demonstrates professionalism, and participates in unit and organizational activities.
The RN is accountable for the quality of nursing care delivered under their direction in accordance with applicable laws, hospital policies and procedures.
- Applies nursing judgment through a thorough, systematic approach to the nursing process
- Assessment: conducts comprehensive, timely, and ongoing physical, psycho-social and pain assessments, including patient education needs
- Planning: creates an individualized plan of care with goals and teaching plans, incorporating family into care
- Implementation: prioritizes and executes an efficient nursing plan of care
- Evaluation/Reassessment: conducts timely evaluation, recognizes changes in patient conditions, and adjusts the plan of care as needed
- Collaborates with the patient care team; communicates with physicians and team members; uses hand-off and SBAR methods
- Demonstrates critical thinking and organizational skills; maintains an orderly flow of patients; reports errors and initiates corrective action when appropriate
- Maintains accurate, timely entries in the patient medical record and communicates with the care team, patient and family
- Maintains current nursing knowledge and adheres to safety policies and procedures
- Supervises tasks delegated to unlicensed personnel per Texas BON rules
- Associate Degree in Nursing or RN Diploma required
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
- Minimum 6 months of applicable experience required
Metropolitan Methodist Emergency Center is a freestanding emergency center open 24/7. Located in Alamo Heights, we offer on-site emergency treatment and imaging services for adults and children. Staff include Board Certified Emergency physicians and experienced emergency nursing teams. We provide quick access to our local hospital and emphasize patient-centered care.
