The House Supervisor - RN assumes responsibility for complete facility operations during the assigned shift. This includes supervising nursing and clinical staff, ensuring that patient care is provided in an accurate and timely manner. This position has responsibility for the supervision of care patients. The House Supervisor facilitates delivery of high-quality, safe and effective nursing care, assists in the operation of the nursing department according to the legal guidelines of mental health care in the State of Texas, supervises staff activities according to the hospital's goals and philosophy, supports nursing staff in interpretation and implementation of policies, procedures and nursing standards of care.
EssentialDuties
- Oversees the entire hospital operations when administration is not present
- Provide, delegate, coordinate and evaluate care of patient through the collaborative efforts of team members and in accordance with the nursing process and standards of care and practice. Provide general nursing care in a facility
- Function as the lead nurse on assigned shift
- Responsible for staff assignments and/or direction of duties, tasks or projects
- Provide professional and administrative leadership to staff
- Accountable for the oversight of staffing performance
- Coordinate nursing, medical and/or behavioral health care activities with all staff to ensure smooth and complete coordination of efforts during shared shift
- Supervisory responsibility for assigning staff according to education and ability
- Provide mentoring and training as needed
- Coordinate all care rendered to patients, including physician orders and diagnostic information, and ensure consultations are ordered
- Document medical, behavioral health information and nursing care
- Administer medications and maintain records in accordance with company policies and procedures
- Assist in developing a plan of care with specific and measurable goals, objectives and interventions defining actions unique to each patient's needs. Assist in updating and revising the plan of care as goals/objectives are met or when the patient's condition changes
- Provide structure and maintain a therapeutic environment in collaboration with the patients and other care providers
- Consistently utilize universal precautions, environmental safety guidelines and applicable level system as applicable
- Upholds the Organization's ethics and customer service standards

RequirementsEducation and/or Licensure: ADN or BSN from an accredited college or university. Must be 21 years or older. CPR and Behavior Managing Program must be obtained within 30 days after hire. Valid Texas RN license in good standing required.
Experience: Two (2) years as an RN/BSN and one (1) year working in a behavioral healthcare setting required. One (1) year supervisory experience of healthcare management and/or experience in an inpatient mental health setting at a management level preferred. Clinical supervision and basic skills in personnel management concepts and methods; basic teaching or training skills preferred; able to understand and apply applicable standards and regulations.
Additional Requirements: Must pass a medication administration exam before administering medications. Must successfully complete training, including restraint and seclusion policies prior to assuming patient care responsibilities.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledgeable of patient rights and laws pertaining to mental health and regulations pertaining to psychiatric nursing and the treatment of the mentally and emotionally disturbed patients. Theories, principles, and techniques of group and individual psychotherapy, symptoms and behaviors of emotionally disturbed mentally ill patients.
- Advanced knowledge and clinical skills in diagnosis and treatment of mental health, professional nursing principles, procedures, and techniques used in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients, social, psychological, and physical factors of mental and emotional disorders.
- Knowledgeable of medical and psychological terminology, medications, including psychotropic drugs, and effects on psychiatric patients as well as control, preparation and administration of medications.
- Displays basic knowledge of treatment procedures; interventions common to acute psychotic as well as non-violent crises intervention practice.
- Basic knowledge of abnormal psychology as typically found in the child or adolescent psychiatric population, application of this knowledge to child, adolescent or adult knowledge of medical terminology, especially those terms associated with child, adolescent or adult psychiatric care; thorough familiarity of psychopharmacy and the use of psychotropic medications…
