Holt CAT is the largest Caterpillar dealership of heavy equipment in the United States. We have a full-time, 1st shift Engine Technician - Shop position available at our San Antonio, Texas Power Systems Division located at 5665 SE Loop 410 San Antonio, TX. The hours of the position are Monday-Friday, 7 am to 4 pm, and occasionally on weekends. This mechanic position is responsible for big bore engine assembly providing high-quality teardown, inspection, and repairs of diesel engines (natural gas) in a shop environment, responding to customer needs in a positive, caring, and timely manner, and ensuring maximum value for work performed.

EducationAnd Experience
- At least two years of diesel-powered heavy equipment engine repair experience preferred
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform complex repairs such as teardown, inspection, and repairs of diesel engines (natural gas) in a shop environment
- Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred
- Must have all required mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures
- Disassembles and assembles machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling
- Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions and maintains equipment and components
- Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management
- Plans and controls cost of repair jobs
- Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return
- Mentors and helps train other technicians
- Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
- Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
- Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., Pro Tech Technician Training Paths
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems
- Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings
- Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
- Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
- Ability to operate a forklift and an overhead crane
- The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
- The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
- The ability to read, write, and understand information
- The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
- Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
- Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
- Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet, and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
- Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
- Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work
