Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive CNC Maintenance Technician to join our manufacturing team. The CNC Maintenance Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining CNC Lathes and Vertical Turret Lathes (VTLs) with Fanuc controls. This includes resolving mechanical, electrical, programmatical, and hydraulic issues, as well as performing preventive maintenance. This role will also support other facility and production equipment maintenance when CNC-related work is not required.
The CNC Maintenance Technician will participate in training activities and support knowledge transfer as part of IPP’s Knowledge Sharing Program. This is a hands-on, working position requiring heavy use of tools and on-call availability.
Essential Functions:
- Diagnose and resolve program communication issues between CNC machines and network systems.
- Troubleshoot Fanuc control alarm codes, program errors, and parameter faults.
- Assist with program backups, edits, and restoration of control settings.
- Perform mechanical maintenance on components including ball screws, spindles, gearboxes, and tool changers.
- Conduct inspections and repairs on mechanical failures including axis movement, backlash, and lubrication issues.
- Diagnose and repair electrical systems such as motors, servo drives, encoders, relays, I/O modules, and wiring harnesses.
- Perform voltage checks, continuity testing, and component replacement using diagnostic tools.
- Inspect and service hydraulic and pneumatic systems including pumps, valves, cylinders, solenoids, and hoses.
- Execute preventive maintenance routines including lubrication, coolant checks, filter replacement, and system calibration.
- Maintain accurate service logs and maintenance records.
- Interpret technical documents, wiring diagrams, and machine schematics.
- Assist in equipment installations, upgrades, and retrofits as directed.
- Maintain compliance with all OSHA regulations and internal safety policies.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Provide support to the broader Maintenance Team.
- Perform maintenance on production equipment and systems beyond CNC scope as directed.
- Participate in knowledge transfer activities with fellow technicians.
- Offer flexible availability for after-hours and weekend support when necessary.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED preferred, technical certification a plus.
- Minimum 2 years of experience troubleshooting and maintaining CNC Lathes and VTLs.
- Strong working knowledge of Fanuc controls and CNC machine diagnostics.
- Experience in hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems maintenance.
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting other industrial equipment is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient in interpreting electrical and mechanical schematics.
- Skilled in using diagnostic tools such as multimeters, pressure gauges, and test probes.
- Strong problem-solving skills and technical knowledge.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Management of tools required to perform assigned duties.
- Forklift, crane, and scissor lift operation experience preferred.
- Availability to support after-hours operations and occasional weekends.
Physical Conditions:
- Must be able to lift 75 lbs., bend, kneel, and climb onto and under equipment.
- Regular exposure to temperature extremes and industrial environment.
- Use of PPE and adherence to safety standards required.
