POSITION SUMMARY:
The Chief of Staff serves as the CEO’s force multiplier and provides strategic leverage—extending the CEO’s reach without adding to her direct management burden. The role ensures that:
• Commitments made to the board, investors, and partners are kept.
• The CEO’s time is optimized for highest-impact activities.
• The board and Executive Committee operate effectively.
• Information flows appropriately across the organization.
• Strategic initiatives advance across functional boundaries.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
CEO Leverage (40%)
• Serve as a strategic thought partner and execution arm to the CEO
• Translate the CEO’s priorities into clear plans, timelines, and accountability structures within the CEO office as well as throughout the organization
• Oversees management of CEO calendar, priorities, and meeting preparation to optimize time allocation—ensuring the CEO’s schedule reflects her highest priorities
• Own CEO communication rhythm: draft consistent Executive Committee updates, ensure timely follow-up with key stakeholders, and maintain proactive stakeholder communication
• Track all CEO commitments and ensure follow-through across the organization—nothing falls through the cracks
• Support CEO effectiveness in fundraising campaign: prepare for investor meetings, track investor commitments and follow-ups, coordinate CEO calendar with Investment Committee rhythm
• Prepare briefing materials for board meetings, investor presentations, public sector engagements, and major external meetings
• Attend key meetings as CEO proxy or observer; capture action items and drive accountability
• Serve as sounding board for CEO on strategic decisions and organizational dynamics; offer honest, direct counsel and bigger-picture perspective
• Manage the Executive Assistant function to ensure the executive office runs effectively
Cross-Functional Accountability (20%)
• Track Momentum:2030 milestones across all executive level functions
• Convene cross-functional teams on CEO’s behalf when initiatives span multiple areas
• Follow up on commitments made in leadership meetings; escalate delays or risks
• Ensure Executive Committee and Officers have visibility into strategic progress
• Facilitate resolution of cross-functional conflicts before they require CEO intervention
Strategic Initiatives (20%)
• Coordinate Air Service Development across functions:
- Prepare CEO for airline pitches
- Track contract negotiations and commitments
- Coordinate with Marketing on flight announcements
- Connect with CPO on air service fundraising
- Link GCR team to destination market activation
- Work with BRG and Insights on employer travel data
• Manage and launch a new Anchor Institution initiative
• Manage special initiatives that don’t fit single-function ownership
• Lead special projects at CEO direction
Board & Executive Committee (15%)
• Ensure board meeting effectiveness: agenda development, material preparation, follow-up tracking
• Staff Executive Committee sessions; capture decisions and drive implementation
• Maintain relationships with board members between meetings on CEO’s behalf
• Coordinate board committee work as needed
• Support CEO engagement with public sector partners (City, County, utilities): preparation for elected official meetings, tracking commitments, ensuring follow-through
• Manage Board Chair engagement: ensure Chair is appropriately involved in key meetings, never surprised by public developments, and aligned with organizational priorities
Leadership Stewardship (5%)
• Manage the Executive Assistant function to ensure the executive office runs effectively
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
• 7-10+ years of professional experience in progressively responsible roles
• Demonstrated excellence in execution, follow-through, and attention to detail
• Experience supporting senior executives or working in chief of staff / similar capacity
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including board-level presentations
• Comfort with ambiguity, rapid context-switching, and competing priorities
• Political savvy and ability to navigate complex stakeholder dynamics
