As the Market Sector Leader, you will lead the development and execution of business strategies across the South Central Region in partnership with Regional Business Group leadership, operational leaders, client managers, and Business Class Directors. You will coordinate across business lines to grow services, secure contracts, and deliver high‑impact projects that support HDR’s Drive to Zero initiative.

Business Development Responsibilities
  • Incorporate HDR’s corporate and Water business vision within the market sector to become an industry leader.
  • Serve as Client Manager for selected key clients in the South Central Region and maintain visible industry engagement.
  • Promote the marketing and delivery of all HDR services to Drinking Water clients within the region.
  • Participate as a member of the South Central Region Water Business Group Management Team.
  • Collaborate with Regional Business Group Managers on development and delivery of market sector initiatives aligned with area and regional drivers.
  • Support client development, deploy pursuit strategies, and guide pursuit processes based on proven capture techniques.
  • Provide direct support to selected pursuits through client relationship development, strategy, and technical differentiation.
  • Participate in industry associations in leadership roles and serve as a company role‑model.
  • Identify key investments (acquisitions and technology) to sustain HDR’s industry leadership.
  • Maintain awareness of area marketing capabilities and provide sector support toward meeting Drinking Water MS booking goals.
  • Develop relationships with counterparts in other consulting and construction organizations.
  • Build relationships with senior leadership in key client organizations.
Staff Development Responsibilities
  • Strategically align Drinking Water staff and projects to develop and deepen skills, mentor, and recruit prospective sector employees.
  • Provide Drinking Water MS input and support for area work‑sharing efforts within the region and the broader Water Business Group.
  • Drive technical excellence in coordination with Business Class Directors and practice groups, promoting quality delivery and HDR’s Drive to Zero initiative.
  • Lead the region in identifying needs and opportunities for new and improved technical services and products.
  • Coordinate staffing/recruiting plans for key hires and support local leadership as needed.
Support to Operations
  • Assist Region and Area Business Group leadership with key project delivery.
  • Act as Principal in Charge on key project deliveries to drive client management and quality.
  • Facilitate cooperation, eliminating hurdles and barriers to success.
  • Implement process improvements and leverage work sharing to meet or exceed planned goals.
  • Monitor staff workload, facilitate work sharing, and promote effective use of resources.
  • Assist with contract review on key projects to manage risk, staffing, quality, and claim resolution.
  • Engage in the PARR process and promote QA/QC, supporting local programs with technical expertise.
  • Disseminate lessons learned, best practices, and key delivery guidance.
  • Lead project management and Principal in Charge assignments to drive client satisfaction, staff development, and technical excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 20+ years of experience in drinking water planning, engineering design, client development, and project management, with majority in drinking water public and private clients and utilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited civil or environmental engineering program.
  • Professional Engineering registration in one or more Central region states.
  • Experience in strategic positioning and technical differentiation for planning/enforcement services.
  • Experience managing diverse client relationships and pursuing programs and projects.
