We are seeking a highly technical and detail-oriented SQL Server Database Engineer and Administrator to upgrade, support, and maintain our SQL Server environments. This role is 100% focused on SQL Server (no other database platforms required) and involves managing a large number of small to mid-sized instances in a production setting. The ideal candidate is an experienced SQL Server professional with a strong background in Power Shell scripting, system maintenance, and high‑urgency production support.
Theday-to-day:
- Manage and maintain up to 480 SQL Server database instances across multiple environments.
- Support long-term maintenance and project initiatives for SQL Server 2022 and 2019.
- Develop, maintain, and document Power Shell scripts for automation and operational efficiency.
- Participate in an on-call rotation (one week per month) to support critical production incidents (e.g., server outages, job failures).
- Perform patching, remediation, and compliance-related tasks, with an understanding of their business impact.
- Apply systems DBA skills including storage planning, binary layout, compliance, and COTS software deployment.
- Maintain security standards and participate in initiatives to ensure infrastructure reliability.
- 3+ years of hands‑on experience as a SQL Server Developer and DBA.
- Deep understanding of advanced SQL Server features such as Always On Availability Groups and clustering.
- Strong scripting skills using Power Shell, with an emphasis on scalability, maintainability, and documentation.
- Experience working in fast‑paced production environments with a high sense of urgency.
- Familiarity with patching, compliance, and security in an enterprise database environment.
- Ability to speak knowledgeably about the business and technical impact of their work.
- Strong preference for candidates with stable, long‑term roles (not heavily contract‑based).
- Passion for continuous learning and technical growth.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Azure.
- Experience with detecting schema drift in deployment workflows.
- Familiarity with Terraform for infrastructure automation.
- Exposure to Terraform infrastructure-as-code.
