Technical Writer, IT Business Analyst
The Technical Business Analyst – ADA Compliance Support Specialist is responsible for eliciting, analyzing, auditing, specifying, and validating business and accessibility compliance requirements. The role supports Client adherence to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards across digital assets, facilities, communications, and employee-facing systems. Working closely with the Usability and Accessibility Manager and ADA Coordinator, this role applies strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to inform business and technical decisions, serving as a technical liaison to promote usability, compliance, and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with project sponsors and ADA Coordinator to define project scope, vision, and accessibility-focused initiatives.
- Partner with ADA Coordinator and department leads to assess and track compliance with ADA Title II across digital and physical environments.
- Gather and analyze requirements via interviews, workshops, surveys, site visits, etc., focusing on accessibility needs.
- Document business processes, functional and accessibility requirements; support business case development.
- Define project impacts, critical issues, outcome criteria, and accessibility metrics.
- Prioritize requirements, including accessibility compliance needs.
- Research and improve accessibility requirements-gathering processes.
Operational Management
- Analyze and document accessibility-related business and technical requirements for websites, applications, and digital communications.
- Assist in planning and conducting accessibility testing aligned with WCAG 2.1 AA criteria.
- Facilitate communication with individuals with disabilities to ensure legal and usability standards are met.
- Maintain logs and reports on remediation efforts, testing results, and accommodations.
- Monitor digital assets’ accessibility status; coordinate with technical teams and vendors for compliance.
- Assist with public inquiries and complaints related to accessibility.
- Support internal ADA training programs across IT, facilities, HR, and public-facing teams.
- Contribute to accessibility policy development and communication strategies.
- Translate user requirements into functional and accessibility specifications and models.
- Track requirements status throughout the project lifecycle; communicate changes to stakeholders.
- Mentor junior staff on accessibility requirements and best practices.
Acquisition & Deployment
- Research accessibility-compliant software and hardware products.
- Participate in QA to ensure accessibility features are enabled and optimized.
- Support selection and deployment of documentation and tracking tools for accessibility compliance.
- Apply project management principles across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for general and accessibility projects.
- Serve as business ambassador and translator for business and accessibility data processes.
- Champion data governance with a focus on accessibility and inclusion.
- Assist in backlog grooming, user story documentation, and sprint planning using Agile methodologies.
- Support area Manager with resource planning, capacity assessments, administration, and budget tracking for accessibility efforts.
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years experience as a Business Analyst or similar role within IT.
- Proficiency with SQL.
- Strong skills in requirements gathering and analysis.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, facilitation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Quick learner with ability to grasp business operations and product specifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Agile methodologies, tools, and SDLC.
- Strong analytical, detail-oriented, and strategic thinking skills.
- Knowledge of Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN).
- Familiarity with Tableau, SAP Business Objects (BOBJ), Oracle, SAP ERP, and ETL development.
- Utility industry experience or a related domain.
- Cloud certification (AWS, Azure, or similar).
- Sedentary work primarily involving sitting, computer operation, manual dexterity, talking, and hearing.
- Use of computing equipment, telephones, printers, and calculators.
- Occasional travel for business events.
- Potential for extended work hours.
