Description
The structured cabling/VOIP technician will oversee the installation, repair, and maintenance of cable systems and associated hardware. This role requires the technician to design, plan, and implement complex telecommunications infrastructure projects, including pathway systems and hardware installation. The technician will utilize independent judgment and discretion to assess client needs, troubleshoot systems, and recommend solutions for improving telecommunications infrastructure. This position also includes a high level of responsibility in managing project documentation, vendor relations, and customer communications.
Responsibilities:
- Developing and overseeing cabling layout plans and design specifications for client projects.
- Utilizing advanced problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex cabling and network issues, providing solutions independently.
- Managing project activities, coordinating efforts between multiple teams, including third-party contractors, vendors, and internal resources.
- Exercising independent judgment in assessing client needs and recommending infrastructure solutions, upgrades, or changes to optimize telecommunications systems.
- Working closely with the Project Engineer to establish guidelines and strategic plans, while independently resolving technical issues that arise during project execution.
- Providing technical consultations and support to clients, offering expert advice on networking infrastructure, equipment installation, and system enhancements.
- Leading pre-sales consultations with Sales Representatives, participating in meetings to assess customer requirements, and providing expertise in developing proposals and scopes of work.
- Occasionally traveling to client sites for consultations, assessments, and on-site troubleshooting.
Required Skills:
- HS Diploma and 5+ years of experience in structured cabling and VOIP systems with progressively responsible roles.
- Advanced knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure design, installation, and maintenance, particularly using CAT 5, CAT 6, and fiber optic systems.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage large-scale projects, coordinate teams, and ensure adherence to deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making in complex technical situations.
Special Requirements :
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to occasionally stand, stoop, bend, and kneel.
- Occasionally lift 10-50 pounds.
- May require travel to customer sites outside San Antonio.
