Reporting to the Director of Clinical Information Systems, this position manages, trains, and motivates a team of analysts/support staff to achieve positive outcomes and continuously add value to the Health IT collaborative at UT Health San Antonio. The role includes managing projects, prioritizing work, providing feedback, managing performance, identifying and mitigating risks, and ensuring high‑quality service to internal and external stakeholders.
The supervisor also performs the job functions of a Clinical Information Systems Analyst, continually assessing and making improvements to systems and processes to increase efficiency while judiciously managing resources. The position requires a subject‑matter expert well‑versed in all software applications for which they are responsible, and supervisory of daily activities of assigned personnel supporting Epic’s applications and modules. Responsibilities include ensuring the integrity of the clinical information system, quality assurance, and collaboration with leadership, peers, staff and vendors.
- Lead, motivate, develop and support a team of analysts/support staff.
- Establish and maintain valuable relationships that are collaborative both within and outside Health IT.
- Oversee staff to ensure collaboration and expert‑level support to counterparts from other Epic applications and Health IT affiliates.
- Collaborate with leadership to ensure timelines and deliverables are realistic and actionable.
- Manage projects, programs and work activities of the team, ensuring deliverables are met on time and on budget.
- Track and measure team, project and individual performance goals, and adjust strategies as necessary.
- Work with leadership, key stakeholders and the team to identify, document and implement potential process and workflow improvements.
- Assist project managers in identifying system capabilities and designing and executing project plans.
- Lead working sessions with team members to review and resolve cross‑application and specialty module requests and support issues.
- Ensure application build corresponds with underlying workflows and processes; liaise with others as needed to achieve this level of understanding.
- Document specifications for both internal users and end‑users; contribute to other Health IT teams’ documentation.
- Design and scope complex projects and statements of work, including deliverables, timelines, milestones and resource estimations.
- Lead trainings and working sessions for team members and staff; mentor, coach and train Clinical Information Systems analysts and support staff.
- Provide technical expertise for system upgrades, build, design, test and document functionality of new system features.
- Based on clinical project requests, work with requestors and users to understand and document current workflow and propose optimized future workflows for planned application changes.
- Present recommended system enhancement opportunities and creative technical solutions for complex clinic‑related scenarios.
- Perform ongoing maintenance and configuration updates to Epic applications.
- Create test scripts, timelines and plans for application and workflow changes.
- Perform testing of clinical information system configuration and processes, including testing across applications and/or testing the configuration of other analysts.
- Coordinate system fixes and changes with software vendors.
