Job SummaryThis is a highly interactive role requiring the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a time-sensitive environment. The Credentialing Specialist must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
This position is responsible for all aspects of initial credentialing and re-credentialing for Civilian Registered Nurses, including the collection, verification, evaluation, and maintenance of highly confidential and sensitive healthcare credentials in compliance with departmental guidelines and accreditation standards. A positive, proactive, and team-focused mindset is essential.
Key Responsibilities- Perform all aspects of credentialing verification, including initial credentialing and re-credentialing, ensuring timely review, approval, and handoff of Civilian Registered Nurse files
- Serve as the primary point of contact and liaison with providers, operations teams, regulators, and leadership on credentialing-related matters
- Maintain accurate records of current state licenses, certifications, and required credentialing documents; track expirations to ensure timely renewals
- Update and manage credentialing databases containing provider data and documentation; conduct regular audits to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Coordinate and facilitate the credentialing process for provider appointments and reappointments across system practices, hospitals, and affiliated facilities
- Review credentialing applications for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with credentialing criteria
- Monitor application timelines and submission deadlines; proactively follow up to obtain missing documentation, resolve issues, and ensure timely processing
- Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders
- Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion, integrity, and professionalism
- Work efficiently under tight deadlines while adapting to changing priorities
- Participate in team meetings and process-improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and quality
- Respond to external credentialing inquiries in accordance with policy and escalate issues as appropriate
- Perform other duties or special projects as assigned
