SummaryPerforms the functions of a specialized clinical nutrition service, including nutrition assessment, education, nutrient intake analysis, and patient screening to provide quality nutrition care to patients and families. Completes established competencies within the designated introductory period and performs other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities- Assess nutritional status of patients based on information from medical records, patients, families, and other healthcare team members.
- Identify and provide teaching needs of patients and families using appropriate educational materials.
- Perform nutrient intake analysis.
- Conduct nutrition screening and assess patients identified as high nutrition risk.
- Communicate effectively with medical, nursing, and other healthcare team members through patient care conferences, charting, and individual consultations.
- Adhere to departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of quality improvement activities.
- Assist in developing policies and procedures related to providing nutrition care and patient tray services.
- Assign appropriate nutrition care tasks to dietetic technicians.
- Act as a preceptor for dietetic interns and dietetic technician students when required.
- Relieve employees in the diet office as assigned.
- Utilize resources efficiently and effectively.
- Maintain a safe environment.
- Address patient population-specific needs.
- Participate in performance improvement activities.
- Education: Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college/university or a foreign equivalent.
- Experience: None required. Preferred: 1 to 2 years in a clinical setting.
- Certifications/Licensure: Registration or registration‑eligible with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics; must complete the registration examination within six months from hire. Must possess current Texas State Licensure or Provisional Licensure by the Texas State Board of Examiners for Dietitians, or obtain Texas State Licensure within 90 days if newly registered.
