Job Summary

The High Quality Substitute is responsible for the supervision, safety and well-being of children ranging from ages 0-17 and some young adults with special needs, while maintaining a safe, clean and presentable environment for clients and their children in accordance with the agency and respective partner’s mission, policies and procedures, while ensuring that services provided are in alignment with the Social Determinants of Health through a trauma‑informed care lens as defined by the agency.

The High Quality Substitute works in collaboration with partner staff to provide high‑quality engagement and supervision of the children whose parents attend partnering program classes; to include meal service, age‑appropriate activities, documentation, record‑keeping and other tasks and duties necessary in order to safeguard the flow of the program schedule. The High Quality Substitute will be required to assist in various settings and/or locations as assigned, moving from classroom to classroom or location to location as needed and directed.

Essential Performance Requirements Required Competencies/Skills
  • Healthcare and Human Services Environments:
    Ability to explain issues and advancements in the healthcare and human services industries.

Essential Functions Program Support
  • Ensures that clients have access, as needed, to all five pillars of the social determinants of health with a trauma‑informed lens through Agency services and/or community partners.
  • Responsible for working in collaboration with program staff to ensure children’s safety, at all times, in accordance with agency and partner policies, as applicable.
  • Responsible for coordinating age‑appropriate children’s activities and/or curriculum. Provide direct support for children with identified or suspected special needs; and provide assistance to ensure children’s individual special needs are being met to include, but not limited to, feeding, toileting, mobility, behavior support and any other personal needs the child requires by accessing supervisor/coaching support for meeting needs appropriately. Ensure that children with special needs are included in the activities to the maximum extent possible.
  • Responsible for providing a variety of support and service to the site and/or center to include, but not limited to, food preparation, meal distribution, after‑meal clean up, sanitizing toys and table tops, general center clean up, greeting of visitors and parents, clerical assistance, answering phones, light computer data entry, etc.
