A nutritionist with First Responder Therapy Solutions mental health practice will work directly with patients to build sustainable, healthy eating patterns that support mood, energy, and overall emotional well‑being, while enjoying significant autonomy over schedule and work style. This role combines clinical nutrition expertise with collaborative, person‑centered care in a therapeutic environment.
Position overviewThis position is designed for a nutrition professional who is passionate about the intersection of food, brain health, and emotional wellness in an outpatient mental health setting. The nutritionist will join a multidisciplinary team (therapists, prescribers, and support staff) to provide individualized nutrition counseling that complements psychotherapy and medication management for conditions such as depression, anxiety, trauma‑related disorders, and other behavioral health concerns.
The role emphasizes long‑term lifestyle change, compassionate education, and practical, real‑world strategies that help patients move toward a more stable mood, better energy regulation, and a healthier relationship with food.
- Flexible, clinician‑driven scheduling with the ability to make your own hours and structure your weekly caseload around your availability, within our standard outpatient practice hours.
- Full control over your calendar, including options for in‑person, virtual, or hybrid appointments, as appropriate for licensure and clinic needs.
- Employment available as W‑2 staff or 1099 independent contractor, depending on mutual fit, preferences, and workload.
- Base salary from $48,000 for qualifying W‑2 roles, with potential for higher earnings based on experience, specialization, hours worked, and productivity; 1099 structure may allow for additional income per session depending on paneling and demand.
- Work with outpatient patients to assess current eating patterns, nutrition concerns, lifestyle factors, and readiness for change, using a person‑centered, trauma‑informed, and recovery‑oriented approach.
- Develop individualized nutrition care plans that focus on stabilizing blood sugar, improving energy, supporting cognitive function, and promoting mood regulation, while respecting cultural preferences, budgets, and access to food.
- Provide ongoing one‑on‑one counseling and education on topics such as balanced meals, mindful eating, emotional eating, food–mood connections, and practical skills like meal planning, grocery shopping, and label reading.
- Collaborate closely with therapists and other mental health providers to align nutrition interventions with clients’ treatment goals, safety plans, and overall care plans, including communication about progress, barriers, and needed adjustments.
Screen for disordered eating patterns or nutrition‑related risks, offer appropriate interventions within scope, and coordinate referrals to higher levels of care or eating‑disorder specialists when indicated.
- Maintain timely, thorough documentation of assessments, interventions, client progress, and recommendations in the electronic health record, consistent with professional and regulatory standards.
- Brings a strong interest in how nutrition impacts mental health, including mood, stress, cognition, and overall quality of life.
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative clinical team, with openness to consultation, case discussion, and integrated treatment planning.
- Values flexibility, autonomy, and the ability to shape a caseload and schedule that are sustainable, while remaining committed to high‑quality, evidence‑informed care.
- Enjoys educating, empowering, and motivating clients who may be managing multiple stressors, co‑occurring conditions, or barriers to consistent healthy eating, and who benefit from clear, practical strategies rather than rigid dieting rules.
This position is designed as a growing role that can expand into a full‑time opportunity as caseload and clinic needs increase over time. Candidates who are interested in building a long‑term, stable practice within the clinic will have the opportunity to gradually increase hours, expand services, and transition into full‑time work as demand for nutrition services continues to grow. This growth‑oriented structure supports a high level of autonomy while also offering a clear path toward greater stability, consistency, and earning potential within the practice.
