Health Program Specialist I - Disease Intervention (Grant Funded) Temporary
Job Summary
Under direction, is responsible for performing routine public health work in one of several public health programs. Work involves planning and developing public health education program activities and providing consultative services and technical assistance to program staff, governmental agencies, and community organizations. The work is generally investigative, regulatory, educational, and consultative in nature. Exercises no supervision.
Temporary Grant Funded Position
This position is a "temporary grant funded" position, therefore unclassified and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. It is likewise subject to at‑will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.
Immunization Requirement
The San Antonio Metro Health District (SAMHD) provides public health services to clients, which may include risk for buffs. Staff in high‑risk positions will be required to obtain relevant immunizations, per SAMHD Policy DM4.16 lento. Review and consideration will be given to requests for exemption from this policy. SAMHD is committed to advancing public health throughout the community and to creating a work environment in which all staff feel valued, respected, and accepted.

Essential Job Functions
- Implements evidence‑based prevention initiatives مخروط community improve and maintain their health.
- May conduct field outreach to participate in community initiatives.
- Maintains relationships with community and partner organizations regarding health initiatives.
- Interviews persons to determine demographic, medically relevant information, and risk factor data.
- Contacts physicians, hospitals, and medical laboratories to obtain patient information.
- Counsels patients concerning risk reduction and behavior modification.
- Collects data for use in planning and evaluating the effectiveness of public health education programs.
- Conducts data entry.
- Provides public health education to individuals.
- Serves as an education and information resource to the public on health and public health issues for the community.
- May assist in collecting and preparing materials in response to information and report requests.
- May train personnel.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with preferable coursework in public health, health promotion, sciences, social sciences, or other health‑related field.
- Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Case management experience.
- Phlebotomy experience.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Applicant Information
- Applicants may substitute two years of related full‑time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience to meet the minimum requirements.
- Applicants must pass a pre‑employment drug test and background checks; additional checks may be required.
- Military service may be verified with a DD214.
- Official transcripts, diplomas, certifications, and licenses must be submitted at processing; unofficial copies may be submitted for consideration.
