Workdays:
Monday – Friday occasional Saturdays, evenings and weekends

Summary: The Doula Apprentice will focus on gaining hands-on experience in training, mentoring, educating, and providing support to new and expectant mothers and their partners throughout the holistic journey of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. As an apprentice, this individual will work under the guidance of an experienced doula, learning the necessary skills and knowledge through direct involvement in care and support activities.

Responsibilities include assisting clients in developing personalized birth plans, delivering prenatal and postpartum education, and offering continuous labor, birth, postpartum, and breastfeeding support. The apprentice will also be on call for births and engage in services conducted in diverse settings, including office consultations, home visits, clinics, or hospitals

This position is a PRN doula apprentice position to handle doula services on an as-needed basis. The position requires availability to work on Fridays and some Saturdays.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Observe and provide prenatal and postpartum education to clients along with birth support and extended postpartum support as needed.
  • Maintain required documentation and records for each client/group and report weekly, monthly, and/or quarterly service counts as directed
  • Complete annual training to become a certified counselor in using online system and adhere to guiding principles
  • Ability to work flexible hours and be “on call” 24/7 to provide services to clients
  • Data entry within 48 hours of service or the most up to date policy
  • Keep current and evidenced based knowledge by attending continuing education opportunities
  • Complete new client intakes on and off site as needed; home visiting or hospital/clinic, as needed
  • Offer prenatal and postpartum support off site as needed; home visiting or hospital/clinic
  • Identify clients with specific needs/concerns and provide appropriate referrals for social services.
  • Check email and work phone daily.
  • Attend, participate, and/or facilitate in staff meetings and other training offered by the program.
  • Assist with coordination and/or facilitation of classes and other workshops, as needed
  • Engage in community engagement activities, such as resource fairs and presentations.
  • Must complete all required professional development assigned in a timely manner.
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral is mandatory.
  • Must be sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
  • Adhering to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Education:

    Certificate of Attendance at DONA International doula or SABD’s Community Doula training preferred; other certifying organizations will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Experience:

    Experience in related fields is preferred, however, training opportunities will be provided to those candidates that meet the above criteria.
  • License and Credentials:
    Reliable transportation, Valid driver license, Clean driving record, Valid vehicle insurance
