Job Summary And QualificationsThe EP Lab Technician-Certified will function as an integral part of the Cardiac Cath Lab team by participating, implementing, and assisting in the care of patients in the Electrophysiology Laboratory. Demonstrates technical proficiency during all Electrophysiology procedures while functioning in both roles of Electrophysiology Cardiovascular Scrub Technician and Electrophysiology Recorder. As the Recorder, he/she maintains good communication with the patient care team to ensure proper equipment set up, accurate monitoring, and quality data collection.
What you will do in this role:
- Demonstrate advanced technical proficiency for all Electrophysiology procedures while functioning in Cardiovascular Scrub Technician and Electrophysiology Recorder. This includes, but is not limited to, the following procedures:
- Diagnostic Electrophysiology studies
- Interventional electrophysiology, Ablation
- Permanent Pacemaker, Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD)
- Biventricular Pacemaker and Defibrillator
- Laser Lead Extraction
- Vascular closure devices, on elective or emergent basis
- Rotating call schedule as assigned
- Identify cardiac structures and anatomy, and assist physician in obtaining or entering data into Electrophysiology Physiologic Monitoring Systems for accurate assessment; verify data accuracy during procedures
- Practice radiation safety and adhere to ALARA principles, with knowledge of regulations and proper use/storage of radiation badges
- Report life-threatening arrhythmias and assess cardiac function using hemodynamics and electrophysiology data; understand related disease processes
- Ensure procedural data is archived for long-term storage and that all components of procedure information are present in both hard copy and electronic formats
- Assist and train new staff and existing staff in scrub/recorder roles
Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:
- Education:
High School Graduate or GED; new hires as of 06/01/2013 must meet one of the following: - Two (2) years full-time Invasive Cardiovascular Technology experience
- Associate Degree or equivalent college hours (62 semester hours) in health, science, nursing, engineering, or related field
- Graduate of an accredited program in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology
- Graduate of a non-programmatically accredited program in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology with at least 1 year of specialty training and 800 clinical hours
- Employee training and competencies as defined by the service line and facility
- Preferred:
One year full-time experience in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology; and a Baccalaureate degree with six months of related experience
Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations
Required:
- New hires must have one of the following certifications: RCIS, RCES, ARRT, RRT, NREMT-Paramedic EMT
- Current certification eligible Cath Lab Technicians must pass RCIS/RCES exam within 18 months from start date
