** Summary
* *** Duties and Responsibilities**:
* Oversees the daily operations of Bexar County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) Public Safety Communications Center
* Supervises and evaluates Public Safety Communications Center staff
* Develops and conducts training programs, refresher courses and training schedules for public safety dispatchers and operators on the use of telecommunication equipment and public safety communications procedures
* Coordinates and monitors training of public safety dispatchers and public safety operators
* Monitors and maintains telephone and radio logging recorder and all associated archive files
* Responds to complaints from citizens regarding dispatcher or call handling issues
* Monitors call handling and makes recommendations for improved efficiency
* Monitors Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System and maintains response plans
* Maintains and performs quality control on various databases supporting the CAD System, Logging Recorder, Geographic Information System (GIS), Tactical Map, Automatic Call Director and Emergency 911 telephone systems
* Maintains radio system databases and updates/programs radio communication equipment
* Maintains and performs quality control on all DPS, TCIC and NCIC entries
* Assists in the preparation of budget estimates for the Public Safety Communications Center
* Performs cost and benefit analysis on routine and special projects
* Acts as BCSO liaison when dealing with outside agencies/vendors and attends public safety related meetings
* Performs administrative functions such as preparing memos/correspondence and weekly performance/status reports
* Maintains inventory of dispatcher supplies and equipment
* Performs related duties as required

* Minimum Qualifications:
*** Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice and/or Communications or a closely related field, and five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in public safety communications, law enforcement, emergency management, customer service, or call center operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
* Knowledge of adult learning principles; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
* Good knowledge of geographical area; knowledge of proper procedures for resolving escalated emergency calls
* Skill in operating telecommunication equipment
* Ability to effectively supervise professional and support staff; ability to remain calm in emergency situations; ability to deal with hostile, abusive and irrational individuals; ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of individuals utilizing tact and diplomacy; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other public safety agency dispatchers, co-workers, County employees and the general public
* Must have a TCOLE Telecommunicator License
* Must pass a psychological and physical exam including a drug screening
* Must possess a valid driver's license
* Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office
* Must obtain Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) Certification within one (1) year of employment
* Must secure and maintain access to TLETS
* Must work weekends and holidays, and perform shift work
* May be required to be on-call 24-hours a day
* May be required to work rotating shifts
* May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek

*** Constantly working in indoor conditions; high call volume, fast paced and stressful call center environment
* Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10-15 pounds
* Occasionally moves about the office
* Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
* Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
* Positions self to perform essential functions
