CAAS Controller (Higher Education / Student Financial Aid)

As a member of CLA’s CAAS (Client Accounting & Advisory Services) practice, you will be an integral part of the CLA client service team and will work directly 1:1 with our clients to provide customized accounting services to support them as they manage and grow their business or organization.
We are looking for a Controller with Higher Education / Student Financial Aid experience to join our CAAS practice based out of Minneapolis, MN;
King of Prussia, PA;
San Antonio, TX; or Chicago, IL.
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations, including Title IV programs.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changing regulations and implement necessary policy updates.
- Oversee the processing of student financial aid applications, verification, and awarding.
- Manage disbursement schedules and reconcile funds with the Business Office.
- Provide clear guidance to students and families regarding financial aid options, eligibility, and application processes.
- Develop communication strategies to improve understanding and engagement.
- Maintain accurate records in compliance with audit requirements.
- Prepare and submit required federal, state, and institutional reports (e.g., FISAP, IPEDS).
- Partner with Enrollment Management and Finance teams to align financial aid strategies with institutional goals.
- Recommend improvements to processes, technology, and student experience.
Bachelor’s degree required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of a degree. CPA certification preferred but not required.
ExperienceSix years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience required.
- Expertise in Title IV regulations and compliance.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience with financial aid management systems.
This position requires working primarily in‑office, including frequent local travel to/from client sites. Occasional non‑local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings, and/or other business‑related purposes may be required.
