Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low‑latency, high‑speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. This role offers an opportunity to make an impact on a space program with substantial scope and consequence by designing next‑generation high‑performance avionics for orbit.
A day in the life:
The Electrical Engineering team is responsible for architecture and development of satellite bus systems, payload development, embedded software, signal integrity, power, PCB development, EMC testing, and hardware‑in‑the‑loop development. Collaborators include avionics teams across Amazon Leo and teams developing the Leo Customer Terminal.
- Work with hardware design teams as an electromagnetic environmental effects subject‑matter expert throughout development (test requirements, readiness reviews, EMC test and support, test report documentation).
- Develop and maintain EMC test software and generate test reports.
- Support EMC equipment calibration and maintenance.
- Complete EMC test procedures, prepare test reports, configure test setups, and conduct testing to MIL‑STD‑461 and/or DO‑160 requirements.
- Collaborate on definition and support of LRU cable harnesses, loads, and test racks for EMC testing.
- Coordinate EMI/EMC test scheduling for all satellite electronic subsystems and vehicle/spacecraft level.
- Investigate troubleshooting and development testing in conjunction with Avionics teams.
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, a U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or be lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or an equivalent degree, or relevant experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in a hardware design or testing role.
- 5+ years of experience in spaceflight avionics testing as an electromagnetic environmental effects engineer.
- Experience using analysis tools to define requirements for emissions and susceptibility of avionics components.
- Knowledge of EMC industry standards and specifications for aerospace (MIL‑STD‑461, MIL‑STD‑1541A, DO‑160, etc.).
- Experience modeling electromagnetic environments with computational software (CST, HFSS, etc.).
- Experience with EMC lab test equipment, setup, and configurations.
- Experience with qualification procedures, reports, test readiness reviews, and failure investigation/reporting.
The base salary range for this position is – USD annually (WA, Redmond, USA).
