Position Information

The San Antonio District is seeking a Bridge Inspection Specialist to support the inspection, monitoring, and data management of over 4,000 bridges across a 12‑county region. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and long‑term performance of the district’s bridge inventory by supporting both field inspection activities and the accurate compilation, analysis, and management of bridge condition data.

The position requires regular use of TxDOT bridge management systems and related databases to organize, update, and maintain bridge inventory records, assist with load rating and maintenance prioritization analyses, and support engineering staff with data summaries, reports, and technical documentation. The specialist may also assist in preparing inspection packages, reviewing historical inspection data, and coordinating data corrections or re‑inspections as needed.

Compensation
  • Minimum Salary: 45,521.00
  • Maximum Salary: 71,055.00
  • Pay Basis:
    Yearly (FLSA Status: Nonexempt)

    Yes, 5% of the time

Responsibilities

Performs work directly related to the statewide bridge inspection program by obtaining and reviewing bridge inspection data, performing bridge inspections, conducting quality control reviews related to bridge inspection; addressing necessary actions regarding Federal Inspection Metrics; performance and preparation of needed plans of action of scour assessments; preparation and oversight of critical finding follow‑up plans of action; addressing database discrepancies; acting as the liaison between Divisions and Districts regarding bridge matters.

Assists with technical activities pertaining to bridge inspection (fracture critical inspection, underwater inspections, and emergency response inspection). Drives and learns to operate specialized bridge inspection equipment. Work requires contact with governmental officials; work is overseen by a licensed professional engineer; work requires travel. Work may be physically demanding and potentially hazardous. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision.

  • Assist with bridge inspections.
  • Coordinate the bridge load‑posting program.
  • Maintain bridge inspection and diving equipment.
  • Monitor bridge inspection consultant activities and assist with coding as needed.
  • Assist with quality control reviews related to bridge inspection activities and monitor needed corrective actions.
  • Assist with reviewing and performing scour assessments, preparing needed plans of action, and status oversight.
  • Prepare and analyze summaries of bridge inspection computer data.
  • Work with Federal Highway Administration representatives to ensure compliance with regulations for assigned projects.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    High School Graduate or Equivalent in general high school studies.
  • Experience:

    No experience required.
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:

    Valid driver’s license; position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    Commercial Driver’s License.
