What you will do

As a Facilities
Maintenance Technician II at Caterpillar, you’ll bring your expertise to ensure the reliability and efficiency of our facilities' equipment. You’ll diagnose, troubleshoot, repair complex equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and support continuous improvement projects. You’ll work independently on more challenging issues such as HVAC, plumbing and/or chillers, while collaborating with other departments to optimize system performance.   • Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on facilities equipment, in accordance with work orders and technical documentation
  • Respond to operational calls for troubleshooting/diagnosing problems with equipment
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and mechanical assemblies
  • Exercise knowledge of industrial electricity, including single-phase and three-phase power, motors, protective devices, and photo sensors
  • Respond to service requests with little or no supervision and without interrupting production operations
  • Provide professional development and on-the-job training to level 1 maintenance technicians
  • Work as a contributing member of the maintenance team to maximize uptime of the production facilities
  • Monitor maintenance upkeep checklists to ensure efficient equipment operation
  • Complete work order processes documentation for complete work history and parts inventory tracking
  • Submit and assist with the creation and resolution of Continuous Improvement Cards
  • Document and correct safety issues to maintain a safe work environment
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, logistics, janitorial, quality, and environmental health and safety departments
What you will have
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment in a manufacturing or operations environment, or a relevant certification or degree in lieu of experience
  • Intermediate experience using hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance tasks like lubrication, cleaning, and inspections
  • Intermediate mechanical knowledge of basic machines (pulleys, levers, etc.), pneumatics, hydraulics, gears, reducers, bearings, lubrication theory, drive components (sheaves, sprockets, chain belts, take-ups), and equipment alignment
  • Familiarity with electronics such as photo sensors, PLCs, remote I/Os, servo drives, and variable frequency drives
What would make you a top candidate
  • Experience working in a team environment and willingness to train/mentor less experienced technicians
  • Preferred experience and/or certification in HVAC and/or Plumbing
  • Knowledge of AC/DC theory, relays, switches, solenoids, fuses, breakers, power generation and distribution (including 480V 3-phase), electrical safety, lockout/tagout procedures, National Electric Code, digital multimeter operation, and motor theory and protection
  • Mechanical knowledge of basic machines and equipment alignment
  • Knowledge of PM procedures, including performing PMs and logging completion
