Director of Youth and Family Ministry

CHURCH MISSION

Christ Episcopal Church is a vibrant intergenerational parish located just north of downtown in the historic Monte Vista District of San Antonio. With a long legacy of faithfulness, Christ Church is committed to proclaiming the gospel of Jesus in word and deed, so that people would be drawn to Christ, changed by Christ, and sent to bear witness to Christ for the life of the world.

Christ Church’s worship life consists of 4 Sunday Eucharist services, 1 “Sidewalk Saturday” Eucharist service that includes social services and a food pantry, holiday services, and weddings and funerals.

The chief goal of Christ Church youth ministry is to cultivate life-long Christian discipleship of its youth. Under the direction of the Rector’s vision and leadership, the Director of Youth Ministry will shepherd Christ Church’s youth ministry (from 6th – 12th grade) towards this goal. The Director of Youth Ministry will lead a formative and fun program for youth and help equip parents to be the chief shepherds of their children.

• Worship
  :
  • Attend the 9AM and 11AM worship services on Sunday morning.
  • Oversee Acolyte ministry: recruit, train, schedule, assist and celebrate acolytes.
• Formation
  :
  • Oversee Youth Sunday School: prepare curriculum, teach, recruit/train/schedule additional teachers.
  • Oversee Youth Confirmation: build pastoral relationship with confirmands, prepare curriculum, teach/recruit teachers, and oversee the logistics of the annual program.
  • Oversee and develop a youth small groups ministry
• Community Building
  :
  • Gather youth 2x a month during the school year for fun activity and fellowship.
  • Plan and lead an annual youth retreat.
• Mission
  :
  • Develop and implement an annual mission trip for the high school and local mission opportunities for middle school
  • Attend and invite youth to come to Sidewalk Saturday 2x a month.
• Pastoral Care
  :
  • Contact work: visit, care and be available to youth in their world towards the end of mentoring youth of Christ Church to a living faith in Christ.

The successful candidate will be:

• A committed disciple of Jesus Christ and a person of lively faith
• Passionate about the growth and care of God’s people, particularly children, youth, and families
• Evangelistic and skilled in sharing their faith
• Ready to contribute to and learn from a team of other clergy and lay leaders
• Able to teach the Bible faithfully and effectively to youth
• Experienced in managing administrative and ministry staff
• Creative and forward-thinking in the design of Youth Ministry
• Excited to work in a growth-oriented environment
• Authority, specific tasks, and salary will be determined based upon the person’s level of experience and expertise.
