St. PJ's Children Home is a safe and loving refuge for children in crisis and accompanies them on their journey to healing and wholeness.
SummaryUnder the general direction of the Lead Teacher, the Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing educational services provided to UAC in a manner that promotes best practices and facilities the optimum delivery of quality trauma informed care to UAC. The Teacher completes lesson plans and facilitates instruction appropriate for students with a variety of academic competencies, backgrounds, skills, and learning needs.
The Teacher provides daily instruction of all course subject areas to include Reading, Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, ESL, and PE.
7:30 a.m.
- 4:00 p.m. (Monday – Friday)
- Promoting a positive climate of learning and excellence where UAC have the opportunity to enhance their developmental growth
- Utilizing effective instructional strategies to meet the academic and behavioral needs of students
- Tracking student progress and completing monthly progress assessments and reports for UAC
- Organizing and preparing materials for daily instruction while maintaining the inventory of classroom materials which may include textbooks, furniture, and other equipment needed to assist in the provision of instruction
- Utilizing the adopted curriculum to ensure compliance with National Academic Standards and create lesson plans
- Successfully completing 10 days of new hire orientation and any annual or bi-annual trainings as required including SAMA and CPR
- Demonstrating knowledge and sensitivity of cultural norms, values and heritage
- Being sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics
- Adhering to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self and others
- Protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization
- Adhering to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Morals Policy
- Taking a solution-oriented approach in interactions and being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization
- Attending and successfully completing a 10- day New Employee Orientation

Minimum Qualifications
- Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in the field of education or related field - Experience:
Minimum one year experience working with youth in a bilingual setting - License and Credentials:
Certification by the State Department of Education or other appropriate accrediting body;
Reliable transportation;
Valid driver license;
Valid vehicle insurance
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as policy and procedures and program standards
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before individuals and groups
- Bilingual:
Fluent in English/Spanish with regards to reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension of the spoken language - Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, organize and manage responsibilities, and prioritize duties and assignments
- Strong assessment skills and the ability to remain calm and composed in crisis situations
- Detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team
- Good critical thinking and problem solving skills
